You may have experienced advertising in some Windows 11 applications at some point. And the truth is that many users have already experienced it, to the point that it makes the browsing experience on its interface more confusing. After receiving harsh complaints, Microsoft has wanted to correct its past mistakes and act accordingly. Therefore, it has redesigned its settings by launching a new update to obtain greater control over advertising, although with exceptions.

There have been many occasions in which Microsoft has ended up frustrating its users with its policy changes and decisions that it has implemented over the last few months. Firstly, it was Windows 10 users who began to report the abusive advertising they received every time they logged on to their respective computers about the need to update to the new version of the operating system, thus raising a great controversy and arousing enormous rejection from its community.

While it is true that Windows 10 will end support sooner rather than later, there are those who still want to hurry up as much as possible. But it doesn’t end here, as Windows 11 users are also experiencing annoying ads. Apparently, the hardware and software manufacturer wants to put an end to this suffering and add options for better control. What are the new features that have been implemented?

Users will be able to control Windows 11 ads

Recently, it has been discovered that Microsoft is already working on a new feature that would solve the poor management of its advertising by the operating system. In the latest beta and Canary versions of Windows 11, new options have been seen within the Settings menu that allow greater control over ads. However, there is no point in declaring victory, since this incentive is limited and there is still no way to completely eliminate ads. So, what exactly is changing?

Members enrolled in beta channels are reporting a new addition to the Privacy & security section called Recommendations & offers, which is based on ad recommendations that are integrated into different areas of Windows 11. Within this section, there is a Personalized offers option, which may have been replaced by Personalized experiences, which is used to prevent suggestions from being shown to us when it is disabled.

The option Allow apps to show personalized ads using my advertising ID under Privacy & Security and General also appears to have been replaced with Advertising ID, shortening the name and leaving the explanation below it to provide more context.

Windows 11 more control on ads

Will there still be ads?

While all of these additions could be positive in changing the perception of Windows 11 users, the reality is that Microsoft reports that alerts will continue to be displayed even if the Show notifications and Recommendations and offers options are disabled: “Required notifications will be displayed even if this setting is disabled.”

It is not known for certain how these new notifications will affect the navigation of menus, but it is expected that these changes, available at the end of the year with the Windows 11 24H2 update, will correspond to much less intrusive ads than in previous occasions.
