The deployment of real 5G continues in Spain, however, it is still very far from reaching the figure of the 5G NSA network. It is clear that the deadlines set to reach the 2030 objectives for the digitalization of the country continue to be met. The problem is that the fastest fifth generation mobile network is the one that is suffering delays compared to other technologies, such as fiber optics.
The report on broadband coverage in Spain from the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service reveals several interesting data. Among them, the advancement of the 5G network in our country. In addition, for the first time, real 5G is added, that is, the one that is deployed over the 3.5 GHz band.
5G over the 3.5 GHz band
5G coverage, according to the latest report last year from the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, increased by up to 10% in a single year. In this way, the whopping figure of up to 92.30% was reached. However, there is a detail in this data that leaves a bitter taste. And the fastest 5G connection, which is known as real 5G, is not as widespread in the national territory.
Although 92.30% of the Spanish population has access to this fifth generation mobile coverage (until June 2023), there are still several points to be addressed. For example, this mobile network reaches 69.93% of the population in rural areas. So it is still a long way from covering this area and ending the digital divide. Although, it is true that it represents an important step, since this gap is reduced in points.
However, the 3.5 GHz band remains far behind the NSA 5G network. It must be taken into account that in this band, for the fastest 5G, the coverage achieved in Spain was 58.13%. Although, it is true that it has grown up to 19 percentage points compared to the previous twelve months. Therefore, it must be taken into account that enjoying speeds greater than 1 Gbps with the mobile network is only possible in those areas where operators have 5G coverage of the 3.5 GHz band.
Check coverage on this interactive map
One of the new features is found in an interactive map in which you can consult the coverage of 5G NSA and 5G SA in Spain. In this way, users have the opportunity to see in which areas of the country it is available. In this interactive map, Global 5G is specified and, on the other hand, the same fifth generation connection, but in the 3.5 GHz band, that is, the fastest option.
On this interactive map you can consult different data, in addition to the fifth generation mobile signal. And you can consult the information of each CCAA during the previous year according to the data in this latest report. However, it is not the only map that you can consult, it is also This option is available in which you can see the 3.5 GHz 5G coverage in Spain in a more global way. For example, you can see how the Community of Madrid has a signal percentage of 79.2%, while in Extremadura it reaches 30.24% or in Castilla-La Mancha it remains at only 24.29%. In this way you can see in a very visual way what the percentage of coverage is in each autonomous community. Although if you want to see the data for each province, you will have to consult this map.
