Can also fast charge your Apple Watch

Belkin has a new power bank with a built-in Apple Watch fast charger. You can also charge your AirPods and iPhone with it. We tested this Belkin BoostCharge Pro power bank with Apple Watch fast charger during a weekend away and these are our experiences!

Belkin BoostCharge Pro power bank review

Belkin releases all kinds of charging accessories under the name BoostCharge Pro and it is sometimes difficult to know which product you are dealing with. BoostCharge can be an iPhone dock for your desk, but also a charging mat or a power bank. In this case, we’re looking at the €99.99 ‘Belkin BoostCharge Pro fast wireless charger for Apple Watch + 10,000mAh power bank’. This is an elongated power bank with a built-in Apple Watch fast charger. That sounds ideal for times when you are often on the road or use your Apple Watch very intensively, so you want to top up during the day. We tested this power bank extensively during a weekend away.

Text, review and photos: Gonny van der Zwaag (@gonny). The test was carried out in July 2023 and describes the situation at that time. The power bank was made available by the manufacturer for this test.

Design Belkin BoostCharge Pro power bank

This power bank is made of black plastic with a matte coating. Thanks to the curves, there are no sharp corners. On the front you only see the Belkin logo and the clearly visible charging puck for the Apple Watch. The back only contains some (mandatory) prints, such as CE and FCC logos. On one of the short sides there is a USB-C port, a button to activate and four lights to indicate the status. That is it. The power bank therefore makes a minimalist impression and will appeal to everyone. It is useful that you can wrap the Apple Watch around the power bank so that it stays in place better. Especially with a Sport Loop or (my current favorite) Leather Link, you wrap the watch strap tightly around the power bank. Due to its curves, the power bank actually serves as a replacement for your wrist.

It is extra convenient that you can also charge your AirPods with this power bank, without needing a separate cable. There is a dent where the charging puck sits, exactly in the shape of an AirPods charging case. This only works with the 2022 AirPods Pro 2nd generation with MagSafe case. We tried other AirPods variants, but this (obviously) didn’t work. You can read more about charging your AirPods on an Apple Watch charger in our tip.

The only thing I worry about with this power bank is that it will ‘stick’ over time. The rubbery coating used feels very soft and pleasant when unpacked, but if you don’t use it for a while the coating can become sticky. You can solve that by putting a (baby) sock around it or covering it with stickers, but then there is not much left of the luxurious appearance. Actually, it is better to have a power bank made of ‘unapologetically’ hard plastic.

BoostCharge Pro power bank in use

The power bank only comes with a short and fairly simple USB-C to USB-C cable. What you also need to use this power bank optimally is a power adapter (for example this 20 Watt one) and a USB-C to Lightning cable to charge your iPhone. If Apple also switches to a USB-C connection with the iPhone, the standard USB-C cable supplied will be sufficient. The capacity of 10,000 mAh is enough to fully charge an iPhone more than twice. To give an impression: with an iPhone 14 Pro you can play an additional 36 hours of videos.

You can of course immediately place the Apple Watch and AirPods on the power bank, without the need for an extra cable.

Such a versatile power bank for iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods is useful if you often go away for a weekend and don’t feel like taking all kinds of adapters with you. You are then not dependent on sockets in hotel rooms, which are sometimes in difficult-to-reach places. Such a fast charger is also very useful for people who wear the Apple Watch almost continuously and also sleep with it. Your Apple Watch will be charged to 80% again in 45 minutes, Belkin promises. But be careful, because Apple Watch fast charging only works with the Apple Watch Series 7 and newer. Coincidentally, I had an empty Series 6 lying around and it took a lot longer to charge. After 45 minutes the battery was only charged to 50%. It can be a solution if the battery of your older Apple Watch is worn out, but you will have to be a little more patient.

In terms of price, you are looking at a price tag of a hundred euros with this more luxurious power bank. And since it is a fairly new product, you won’t be able to find many offers yet. Power banks with a capacity of 10,000 mAh can be found much cheaper elsewhere, but you will have to provide a separate Apple Watch fast charger yourself. A nice-looking solution simply costs a bit more. In our opinion, the price is the biggest disadvantage of this power bank. The main question is whether you need this. I always charge my Apple Watch while sleeping and I especially need a power bank for my iPhone. I would have liked to see this power bank equipped with a MagSafe charger (Belkin also has that and is a lot cheaper).

Conclusion Belkin BoostCharge Pro power bank review

This power bank is nice and compact and not too heavy. Its round shapes make it comfortable to hold and easy to carry. It is also useful that you can wrap the Apple Watch around it while charging, so that it does not slip off. In terms of product, there is not much to complain about this power bank, but there are cheaper options if you are looking for a capacity of 10,000 mAh.
