If you’re into streaming, you might already know about it, but if not, you need to know what you’re missing out on by not using it. This time, we’re going to talk about an app that’s somewhat similar to these, but that helps us in a different way when it comes to spending time watching TV with movies and series. Especially if you’re subscribed to several streaming platforms at the same time, it’s a must-have for your devices or smart TV.
Unlike other media centers like Kodi, which focus on downloading content, Stremio’s proposal lies in developing the most complete and up-to-date catalog of content, both series and movies, from all streaming platforms on the market.
Basically, Stremio is the place where you can search for exactly the movie or series that has interested you after seeing it on social media, in advertisements or in the news, even if you don’t know which platform it is on. And with the huge catalogue of audiovisual services currently at our disposal, you don’t know where each new release is, whether on Prime, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Disney, etc.
Stremio is like a large repository of the entire catalog of all platforms. You can search for the series you want to watch, and Stremio will tell you which platform or platforms it is available on. From that same screen, links are provided that go directly to those services, so if you see that the movie you want to watch is on one of the ones you have subscribed to, you will only have to click on the icon and it will take you directly to the Movistar Plus+ app, for example.
This offers you a lot of convenience and also allows you to consider at any time whether you should subscribe to one platform or another depending on where the content you like the most is located.
The app is also very easy to install, as it has an installer for Windows, Mac and Linux, as well as mobile apps for Android or iOS. You will also have the app on your iPad, or on your Smart TV if it is an Android television. In this case, from your Smart TV you will only have to go to the Google store and download the tool from there. Using it is very simple: it is a much more intuitive app than Kodi, for example. If it appears in English when you download it for the first time, you will have to go to Settings and change it to Spanish.

But serving as a definitive guide to audiovisual content is not its only function. Stremio is an open source app, so many developers create their own add-ons or plugins that allow you to do much more with it. Stremio also lets you watch free web channels, allows you to access free-to-air sports content, as well as other television channels that are freely accessible on the Internet. You can also listen to podcasts, for example.
One detail that is still important is that the ratings achieved by each content are usually shown on specialized portals such as IMDb, to know how critics or the public have rated a film, and to avoid wasting time with a poor quality film.
Create your personal video library
As well as serving as a link between the content you want to watch and the platforms on which it is hosted, Stremio allows you to archive the films and episodes you want to watch in different ways. You can create different lists with the content you have already seen or with the content you want to watch next, so that you have your own digital video library organised. The usefulness of this is enormous, as you will like to keep a count and archive of the series and films you watch so you don’t forget, like on Letterboxd, for example.
At the bottom of the screen of a movie or series, there are two options: Preview and “Add to library”. By clicking on add to library, we will save the movie and we will be able to check later what we have seen or what we have pending, so that we do not miss out on enjoying a movie because we forget about its existence.
It is for all these reasons that you should give the platform a try if you don’t use it yet. It has helped me to organize the series I am watching at the same time and not lose track of the premieres that interest me.
