Last week, Digi hit the table by announcing that it was going to be the first fiber operator to offer a Wi-Fi 7 router to its customers. The truth is that, after the announcement, we were left wanting to know something more. Although, today, we have been able to see first-hand the brand, model and aesthetics of this new router. And, furthermore, it has left us with a very good taste in our mouths.

Wi-Fi 7 offers many advantages over all the routers we have seen so far with Wi-Fi 6. For example, it gives us a much faster connection speed while drastically reducing connection latency. This makes streaming gaming over a wireless connection finally possible. Another advantage of this type of connections is that it significantly improves connection coverage, so we will have many fewer problems at home. And it also increases the maximum number of devices connected at the same time, something very important with the Internet of Things.

In general, a better speed and connection quality that all compatible devices will be able to take advantage of. And, those who are not compatible will be able to continue using the newest version of Wi-Fi that they support, since this protocol has absolute backward compatibility.

We already knew that the exact model was the ZTE F8748Q. Now, what is this new router going to be like? Big small? What features will it have? Let’s see it.

The new Digi router in your hand

Thanks to Mobile World Content we have been able to see and touch this new router. The first thing that caught our attention is that it is manufactured by ZTE, one of the best-known router and ONT manufacturers that most often works with operators. Furthermore, it has caught our attention that both Digi and ZTE have opted for a vertical design, which will help save space, since it will be similar to a (large) book.

Of course, as we can see, it is not designed to be placed horizontally like other routers are. The main color of this router is white, and although it is made of plastic (like all of them), it has a polished and shiny finish, very elegant.

In the back we find some of its main features. The first thing that catches our attention is that we can connect two phones to this router to make and receive calls. It also has a 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection, which leaves this router ready to use the 10 Gigabit network that it offers in the Pro mode. Additionally, we have 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB port, the power outlet and the power button. on and off.

On the front we have an ECO button, which will allow us to activate a low consumption mode on the router (or, at least, that’s what logic tells us).

We also have two other buttons related to WPS and Wi-Fi.

Digi Wifi 7 6 Router

As we can see, although it is quite tall, it is also quite narrow, so we can place it without problems on any shelf. In addition, it has the ventilation at the top, so it is less likely to clog it and have problems.

Who is this router for?

Unfortunately (although to no one’s surprise), this top-of-the-range router is not going to be available to everyone. At least, for now. Digi has confirmed that it will only be offered to users who contract PRO-DIGI, the fiber with up to 10 Gbps speed.

And, although we do not know when it will be available, to begin with it will be given away shortly to the first 1,000 customers throughout Spain who signed up for this service.
