Woxi TV Sports is an IPTV application that works by introducing channel lists in M3U format oriented to sporting events. Although it is changing names (WX Sports, Go Player, Fun Player, Aron Player), it is still one of the most popular for watching sporting events live, free and in high definition.
You may have been tempted by such a sports offer, but is it legal to use it? We are going to analyze which uses would be allowed and which would not.
How does Woxi TV Sports work?
Woxi TV Sports stands out for its ease of use, as it offers an advantage over other similar applications by putting the user in control of configuring the menu of sports channels they want. In other words, the app has sections to browse to find the best sports channels in the world.
In this way, you can add the channels you want, either manually or by copying and pasting the corresponding URL in the application. In addition, it integrates its own multimedia content player, so you don’t have to make any additional downloads to play the different contents.
Is this IPTV app legal?
Most IPTV lists are illegal since they are lists with pirated content from paid streaming platforms that a user shares through P2P technology. As you can imagine, Woxi TV (or any of its derivative apps), would only be legal with a legal m3u list.
The app should not be illegal per se. If we live in Spain, for example, we can watch Spanish DTT channels through IPTV without any problem and it is completely legal. Likewise, we can watch other broadcasts from other countries without breaking the law, although it may be through a VPN to bypass geolocation.
The main problem is precisely the use of these pirate IPTV lists, which is what they are based on to be able to broadcast content blocked by intellectual property rights, such as LaLiga matches, the Champions League and many more.
For this reason, these apps are generally not placed in official app stores such as the Google Play Store and Apple AppStore and, if they are, they end up being removed due to pressure from those who have seen their rights violated.
The constant change of name tries to avoid tracing and give these projects an extra life time. That they change their names so frequently could give us a clue that the main use given to the IPTV app is fraudulent, even though it could be used lawfully.
In short, as happens with other types of applications, the application is legal, but what is illegal would be the fraudulent use of it. If in VLC we reproduce completely legal content, such as the video of our vacations, there would be no problem. On the other hand, if we reproduce an illegally downloaded movie there, we would be committing an irregularity.
The case of Woxi TV is similar to that of Kodi. Kodi is completely legal because it can be used for honest purposes. If it is not given the use for which it was created, things change. Woxi TV would be legal if you could legally have sports IPTV lists. Is it your case?
