Windows 11 users won’t like it: ads will be in the Settings menu in July

Microsoft continues to fill Windows 11 with advertisements in an attempt to make its operating platform more profitable when it is in the hands of millions of people. The latest addition to the update scheduled for July is a new advertisement that, this time, will appear in the system Settings menu.

Weeks ago we read that Bill Gates had had problems using Windows 11 because one of the system processes had been impossible for him. He complained about the difficulty of using an operating system that, in reality, should be completely opposite. Now that type of problem could increase, since the company is going to put a banner ad in the Settings menu. And that, precisely, is the place where everything should be as simple as possible.

Gaming Recommendations

What the community is defining as advertising for obvious reasons, Microsoft defines as gaming recommendations. In the information of the latest update, they indicate that this is a new recommendation card dedicated to Game Pass. Its purpose should be to provide ideas and recommendations to users who like video games, although limited to the promotion of the Game Pass service and all the games available on it.

Game Pass announcement in Windows 11 Settings

The only good news is that, according to Microsoft, this ad will only appear on the computers of people who are in the habit of playing video games on a regular basis. So, if you don’t have any games installed on your computer or don’t play games often, you might not come across this ad. But it remains to be seen what measure Microsoft takes as a baseline to display the ad. We also know that the ad will appear on both the Home and Pro versions of Windows 11.

Other news in this version

Updates 22621.3810 and 22631.3810, in which this advertisement is integrated, also bring other new features to the Microsoft operating system. For example, the show desktop button has been brought back to the taskbar. Previously, it did not appear by default and many users had protested against it. Microsoft admits that the change has not convinced everyone and has put back the button, which is undoubtedly very useful. Users who want to get it back just have to go to the taskbar, right-click and then choose Taskbar settings. One of the options that appears at the bottom of the list is called Taskbar behavior and, within it, it is possible to make this adjustment.

This update also adds support for Emoji 15.1, enables the ability to copy files from the Windows Share window, and changes the Start menu to focus more on the benefits of having a Microsoft account. The latter may also cause more than one complaint, since the company continues to encourage the complication of systems and elements of its platform that have always, in the past, opted for simplicity.

Lastly, File Explorer gains in efficiency and possibilities by allowing you to create TAR (Tape Archive) and 7-Zip files. However, although it cannot be said that there is no good news among the elements of the update, everything related to the Game Pass announcement is sure to cause controversy among users. As on other occasions, it is possible that, in the end, Microsoft will decide to change course and remove the Game Pass advertisement. There is no doubt that the Windows 11 Settings menu does not seem like the most appropriate or useful place to place advertising, but Microsoft may have its reasons for doing so.
