YouTube wants to make your playlists more popular with this feature

Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, YouTube and, in general, any platform for enjoying streaming music allows users to create their own playlists with the songs they like the most, a fantastic function to classify our music, for example, by themes, eras, styles, among others.

When we create a playlist, the idea is to be able to easily recognize, at a glance, which playlist we want to listen to. To do this, they allow us to use an image that we have stored on our computer, whether PC or mobile, to identify it and whose operation is very similar to the thumbnails of YouTube videos.

If we like to create playlists of music or YouTube videos and, in addition, we like to make them public so that other users can also discover a certain type of content, the search giant is working to add a new function within the application for mobile devices that will allow you to upload personalized cover images.

According to the guys at Android Authority, who have had access to the code of the application with version number 19.26.33, in it you can see several lines in which different error messages are displayed that will be shown when we try to upload an image and the process fails, either because the dimensions are not correct or there has been a problem during upload.

Add covers to your YouTube playlists

When we create a YouTube playlist, this platform uses the thumbnail of the first video we include, an image that does not allow us to easily identify what the content is without reading the name of the playlist, a function that is available on all music streaming platforms.

YouTube - Playlist Covers

Android Authority states that users who do not want to use the default thumbnail used by YouTube will be able to upload an image from their mobile devices with a maximum resolution of 1280×720, more than enough resolution considering that it is not displayed in full screen on nowhere, so if it were smaller, it wouldn’t be a problem either.

YouTube recommends using 16:9 format for video playlists. With the end of support for the Google Podcast application, these have become part of the YouTube catalog, podcasts whose thumbnail has an aspect ratio of 1:1. At the moment, YouTube has not established any requirements for Shorts thumbnails, forcing users to choose between the different options it offers.

We don’t yet know when YouTube plans to add this new feature to the app, a feature that will obviously also be available in the web version of the browser, but it is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated features, since identifying a playlist by its name and not by a custom cover is time-consuming and anything but intuitive.

When this feature is available, YouTube will announce it along with the guidelines that users must follow to create them, guidelines that should be different depending on whether the playlist is public or private.
