Keeping our computer updated is one of the essential maintenance tasks that we all must do. And not only to make sure that everything works correctly and without errors, but, more importantly, to make sure that our operating system, or the programs we use, do not have serious security flaws. Like every month, today it was the turn of Windows. And, seeing how many bugs the new October updates fix, we can’t put off installing these new patches.

As usual, on the second Tuesday of October, Microsoft has released its new security patches with which to correct all kinds of bugs and security vulnerabilities detected in recent weeks in all versions of Windows that are still supported, as well as in other company products.

All supported versions of Windows (ie Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and 11) have received their share of patches. Each operating system has corrected a good list of bugs and problems directly related to security, in addition to correcting other bugs and problems that made some functions of the computer not work as expected.

All bugs fixed in October 2022

It is curious that, on this occasion, all the critical vulnerabilities that have been corrected in all versions of Windows are inherited from Windows 7. Microsoft has not given many details about them for security reasons, but we can know that it is various bugs related to the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol.

Windows 7. Fixes 35 security flaws, 8 of which have been considered critical. The latter are all of the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol style, except for one of them (CVE-2022-34689) which is found in the CryptoAPI libraries of the operating system. If we want more information about security flaws, we can find it under the following CVE codes:

  • CVE-2022-22035
  • CVE-2022-30198
  • CVE-2022-33634
  • CVE-2022-24504
  • CVE-2022-41081
  • CVE-2022-38000
  • CVE-2022-38047

Windows 8. Corrects a total of 49 vulnerabilities, of which 8 have been considered critical. The critical flaws are the same as those found in Windows 7.

Windows 10. In total, this system corrects 64 security flaws, of which 9 have been considered critical and the rest as important. 8 of the critical bugs are the same ones we just saw in Windows 7 and Windows 8, in addition to fixing a privilege escalation bug (CVE-2022-37979) in Hyper-V.

Windows 11. This operating system fixes the same 64 security issues as Windows 10, sharing both the 9 critical and 55 important security flaws.

All editions of Windows Server have also received their share of security patches, also sharing critical bugs with Windows 7, just like the desktop.

Update PC

To prevent hackers from hacking our computer, it is necessary to install the new security patches for Windows as soon as possible. These can be installed in two ways. The first one, and the recommended one, is to do it directly from Windows Update. Simply check for new updates using Microsoft’s tool to automatically download and install these updates. After a restart, our computer will be protected from any vulnerability.

In addition, we can also download and install the updates by hand to bring our PC up to date without Internet or when we have a very slow or problematic connection. The patches can be found under their KB numbering:
