They await the final OK to all the bureaucratic procedures that they must face in order to start the most supportive of their trips. There are 20 taxis that will leave, between Wednesday and Thursday, for the Ukraine. On the way out, they will travel loaded with humanitarian aid; on the way back, they hope to return with a hundred refugees.
Carlos hopes to have all the documentation ready so that the convoy of taxi drivers can leave in the next 24 or 48 hours. He is a taxi driver who, along with other colleagues from the union, have collected donations at Madrid’s Barajas airport to help alleviate the harsh situation that Ukrainians are suffering after the invasion of their country.
In statements collected by the newspaper El Mundo, Carlos says that although there will be 20 vehicles that will travel, they have the help of more than a hundred taxi drivers.
The most charitable race
The one prepared by these 20 taxi drivers will undoubtedly be the most charitable race. Its objective is to travel to the border that separates Ukraine and Poland to bring humanitarian aid.
Of the 20 vehicles that will travel, a dozen will be high occupancy. They have fixed a route that will cross Luxembourg and Germany. In each vehicle there will be two drivers who will take turns to shorten the deadlines.
After making their project known on social networks, the solidarity taxi drivers are receiving support and collaboration from various organizations such as Elite and Guild.
Back with a hundred refugees
The Professional Taxi Federation is collaborating with the logistics organization of the trip.
Carlos and his companions will travel with taxis full of humanitarian aid and will return with between 80 and 100 refugees. The Taxi Federation works to ensure asylum places for all the people who return in the convoy of taxi drivers.
Citizens who want to collaborate can make a transfer to the Federation account (ES8600490922782710413118) with the subject “Taxi sin Frontera”.
