The new traffic law is already in force and has brought with it many changes that, in general, many drivers are still not clear about. Most are hardening of the punishment in the form of points, although there are certain acts for which a greater financial penalty must also be paid. What fine is there for not wearing a seat belt?

As far as it goes, not using it is one of the behaviors that least increases the fines it entails.

With the new law, not wearing a seat belt now means the loss of four points on the license, when until now it only meant a reduction of three. On the other hand, the economic sanction does not vary, it continues to remain at the same 200 euros.

Of course, the regulations explain that the fine can be imposed both if the belt is not used or if it is used in an inappropriate way, let’s say, for example, someone who wears it under the arm.

In addition, within the law this type of sanction does not apply only to seat belts, it also extends to child restraint systems, helmets and other protection elements; therefore, it affects all types of user that are on the road.

In the middle of 2021, it would seem unnecessary to have to tighten this rule, since it seems difficult to believe that someone does not wear a seat belt, a gesture that for the vast majority of drivers is automatic when getting into the car.

However, from the DGT they point out that it is an aspect in which many of the users, whether they are drivers or passengers, have relaxed and that according to their data, half of those who died on the road would have saved their lives if they had used it. .
