Cloud storage services are becoming more and more common among all types of users and companies. They are an excellent alternative to local storage on internal or external disk drives.
At the moment, many technology companies offer us their own service of this kind, often for free. Later on, we have the possibility of increasing this free space available by paying for some kind of subscription. This is the case of Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, which are surely more than familiar to most of you.
Although the aforementioned OneDrive platform is part of Windows by default, many users prefer to use Google’s offering. This is something that can often be a mistake, as we will show you in these lines. There are certain functions that we can use through the application offered by Microsoft, and that we do not find in Google’s cloud storage service.
We must take into consideration that this is possibly the best option on our Windows-based computer. Below we will show you some reasons for this and that could lead you to abandon Google Drive in favor of OneDrive.
Reasons to abandon Drive for OneDrive
It should be noted that both cloud storage platforms offer a free plan that can be upgraded later. But many end users will have more than enough space to store their personal data here. Let’s look at the features that we can benefit from in Microsoft’s offering and not in Google’s.
Greater security for shared links. Something quite common in these remote storage services is to share files and folders through links with other users. Unlike what happens with Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive allows us to protect these links with a password and also add an expiration date. In this way, we only share these contents for as long as we deem appropriate.
Content synchronization is much faster. The internal workings of Microsoft’s storage platform make synchronizing our files much faster than Google’s. Only non-existent files and folders are added when backing up to the cloud, which saves us a lot of time.
Personal storage. Although it is somewhat limited in space, this is one of the most interesting functions that OneDrive offers us. It is a more secure space within our Microsoft account to store the most sensitive documents and folders to which we want to add an extra layer of security.
OneDrive integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft products. We have already mentioned that this application is found by default in Windows, which is the most widely used system on PCs. That is why it integrates very well with the operating system and other products from the firm such as Microsoft 365, the popular office suite.
