How is the ITV of hybrid and electric cars

More and more brands continue to bet on the electrification of their range, either through hybridization or pure electrical systems, without assistance. Sales of the first type of vehicles grow exponentially in our country; the same does not happen with those of the second: last year 24,000 cars were registered, which corresponds to only a 2.8% market share.

What is clear is that they are increasingly accepted and the number of people who opt for them is greater. Currently Spain has a fleet of electric cars that is around 70,000 units. For this reason we believe that it is important to know what the ITV of hybrid and electric cars is like and the differences that exist with that of cars powered only by an explosion propellant.

The legal advice Pyramid Consulting informs that regardless of the type of engine and the purpose -commercial or private-, it is after four years of registration when this technical inspection has to be passed.

The main difference between an electric car and a hybrid car is in the gas and noise tests. Obviously, being an electric car, neither the first nor the second of the tests are done. Yes, it is mandatory to pass it in the case of hybrids, both plug-in and non-plug-in, since they are equipped with a combustion engine.

In the vast majority of cases of the latter type, when the car is started, the electric mode comes into operation. For this reason, inspectors have to be guided by the protocols set by the manufacturer.

And if we talk about the price, it should be noted that the price of an electric vehicle and that of a plug-in or non-plug-in hybrid with a gasoline engine, in most communities, is the same, although there are cases such as Andalusia and Castilla y León in which there is a considerable reduction in the electric ones (11.91 and 13.13 euros, respectively). It does increase when it comes to a hybrid propulsion with a diesel engine.

It is important to remember that in Spain, the ITV depends on the autonomous communities, except in the Community of Madrid and Murcia, which are liberalized -Extremadura has a mixed model-.

And just like a combustion car, you have to take the sticker on the windshield, otherwise you can be fined 200 euros. Likewise, in the case of having an unfavorable result, there is a maximum period of two months and the vehicle can only be moved to go to the workshop or inspection center.
