Japanese multinationals Honda and Sony today formalized an agreement to create a joint venture dedicated to selling electric models and offering mobility services to users. The company, which will be called Sony Honda Mobility, will be 50% owned by each of the two companies and will have an initial capital of more than 70 million euros.
Honda brings to the project its safety and environmental technologies, its capacity to develop mobility, its experience in vehicle production and the management of after-sales services, while Sony will offer its knowledge in terms of image treatment technologies, detection, telecommunications, networks and entertainment.
The idea of both companies is, according to the statement that both have made public, “to create a new generation of mobility and services aligned with users and the environment”. Both intend to start selling electric vehicles in 2025, although at no time has it been specified which models both companies will jointly manufacture.
It should be remembered that the electronics company Sony has presented in recent years two concept vehicles called the Vision-S 01 sedan and the Vision S-02 crossover with which it demonstrated its readiness to enter the automobile market while announcing the search for a partner. strategic for it. Last March, the agreement between the two companies was announced, which has now been finalized with the creation of this joint firm.
It is also important to mention that, in addition to this agreement with Sony, Honda, a brand that has arrived somewhat late in the electric car market, also has a closed agreement with General Motors to use the Ultium electric platform of the American consortium for the manufacture of electric vehicles, initially only for the United States.
