The second best-selling model of the brand in Spain, after the Kamiq, receives an update that includes changes in design, equipment and a new 150 hp diesel engine. You can now buy the new Skoda Karoq, a 4.39 meter long SUV that starts at 22,500 euros with discounts.

New Skoda Karoq 2022

Despite what is falling in the automotive sector due to the decline in sales, Skoda boasts of having experienced one of its best years in Spain, since in 2021 it managed to improve its sales by 16.6%, with more than 26,500 units sold, and exceed 3% market share for the first time. It was also recognized as the best importer of the year worldwide.

For 2022, they do not expect such good figures, but the market is also suffering a sharp drop. The forecast of the Czech brand is to reduce registrations by 34% and achieve a market share of 2.5%. As they tell us, they expect the second half to be more positive and for this they will have the renewal of one of their most important models in the range: the Skoda Karoq, launched in Spain at the end of 2017.

More aerodynamic design

More than 418,000 units of the Skoda Karoq have been sold since its launch in Europe, of which 21,000 have been registered in Spain. One in five Skoda sales corresponds to a Karoq. It is also the third best-selling model in Europe, behind the Octavia and the Kamiq. What improvements does the renewal of this compact SUV bring?

Before getting into the matter we tell you what it does not bring. On the one hand, there will be no Scout version (more jacket), nor the sportiest RS and it will not be available with electrified variants because the platform it uses does not support it. The Skoda Karoq is therefore only available with C-labeled petrol and diesel engines.

The changes in exterior design improve its aerodynamics and, therefore, its efficiency.

The changes in the exterior design have focused on improving aerodynamics by 5% thanks to a new design of the front bumper, the front grille, a redesigned front apron, a longer rear spoiler or new wheels. Lighting is also improved with new Led headlights with the option of matrix lights with more automatic operation. All in all, a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 15% is achieved compared to 2020.

When choosing body color, Phoenix Orange and Graphite Gray are added from a total of nine colors.

Inside, the 10.25-inch instrument panel or Digital Cockpit stands out in all finishes except for the Active, which is 8 inches. The central screen is not very large but it is very practical, intuitive and retains traditional buttons to control the different functions. This screen is 8 inches and only optionally in the Style and Sportline finishes you can choose 9.2 inches.

Skoda improves the interior customization options with new upholstery, the latest being Eco-Mocca, made from recycled materials. You can also opt for the Suedia upholstery in black and leather in black and beige.

As for dimensions, it remains unchanged: 4.39 meters long, 1.60 high, 2.02 wide and 2.62 meters of battle. The capacity of the trunk does not change either, offering usable 521 liters that can be expanded to 1,630 liters, a good figure for the size of the car.

It is a very versatile compact SUV.

impressions of the interior

If Skoda is characterized by something, it is for its good value for money and for the practical details that it includes in its models, for example, the various hooks to hold bags inside the trunk. The loading mouth has easy access and, in general, the shapes of the trunk are quite square and usable.

I really like the rear seats because they are really spacious and also have good head height. The only thing that the occupant who travels in the central seat will have to negotiate a good step of the transmission tunnel.

The materials used give a good impression of quality, especially the soft plastic in the upper part of the dashboard and in the door panels. In addition, ambient lighting is improved, something quite in demand, and now the rear doors are illuminated in one of the ten available colors. The front passenger seat includes the option of electrical adjustment and memory function and the three-zone Climatronic system is also offered.

In this link you can read the in-depth test that we published of the Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSI 150 CV DSG and where we tell you many more impressions about habitability.

Very functional interior and with materials that give a good impression of quality.

In terms of safety, it includes the most advanced driving assistance systems, among which the Crew Protect Assist system stands out as an option, which is responsible for reacting to an imminent collision with the novelty that includes sensors in the rear.

Only with C tag

The range of engines remains unchanged, the only novelty is that a new diesel engine is introduced, the 2.0 TDI with 115 hp. In diesel, you can also opt for the 2.0 TDI with 150 hp, in both cases with manual transmission or DSG and for the most powerful version also with the possibility of 4×4 traction.

If you prefer gasoline, the options are the 1.0 TSI 110 CV manual, the 1.5 TSI 150 CV manual or DSG and the 2.0 TSI 190 CV DSG 4×4.

According to what they tell us from Skoda Spain, 60% of buyers choose the DSG change and 23% the total traction.

Skoda Karoq 2022

In the national presentation I was able to drive the Skoda Karoq 2.0 TDI 150 CV with automatic DSG transmission and Sportline finish that comes with a somewhat harder suspension. It has three driving modes, Eco, Comfort and Sport, in which the speed of response when stepping on the accelerator varies from less to more. More than enough performance for comfortable and dynamic driving both on the motorway and on secondary roads, although on the latter the roll in curves is more appreciated due to the elevated bodywork.

The DSG change can be controlled manually with the paddles on the steering wheel, something that greatly improves the speed of gear change, since in automatic there are times when it takes time to react. In general, it is a spacious, comfortable SUV that offers dynamic driving, a good alternative for traveling and for day-to-day use.
