For a few years, Amazon Fire TV has seriously jeopardized the hegemony of Google Chromecast as the main alternative as a dongle to turn any television into a Smart TV with advanced functions, to the point that the Amazon device ended up leading the market and selling like churros .
Now this status quo could go back to square one because Google has grown tired of the low-cost policy and intends to strike back at Amazon with its own weapons.
A cheaper Google Chromecast
Taking into account that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones will be presented on October 6, as well as the Pixel Watch, Google could take advantage of that date to do the same with a new cheaper Chromecast model to compete head to head with what Amazon proposes with the Fire TV.
Obviously, some features would be cut to achieve a more affordable price. The main change will be that this new model will dispense with 4K resolution. The cheaper version will be called HD and will have lower resolution than its predecessor, focused on Ultra HD screens.
It is precisely these older televisions, but already with 1080p resolution, that would most need a dongle to add smart functions, while it is hard to imagine a 4K television to which the Chromecast will provide many new functions, apps or content.
Some reports already suggest that some stores already have the first models waiting to be sold, which will surely mean that they will go on sale as soon as they are announced.
Filtered price of Chromecast HD with Google TV
Even the estimated price of this Chromecast HD with Google TV is already known. As pointed out German medium WinFutureCompared to the 69.99 euros of the Chromecast with Google TV (the newest model with 4K), this Chromecast and according to the leak, would have a price close to 40 euros.
Indeed, this new Chromecast would replace the 3rd or third generation version of the Chromecast, which dates back to 2018 and has a price identical to that filtered by WinFuture, 39.99 euros. It also had HD resolution up to 1080p, but it lacks voice control with Google Assistant, Google TV, and the ability to control smart home devices or play Google Stadia.
All these functions, present in the Chromecast with Google TV model, could be a good incentive to renew the old third-generation Chromecast while maintaining the same price, but gaining all those features at the same price.
