Carlos Sainz has a new engine and will start from the bottom of the grid.
Another sanction for Verstappen! Just a couple of weeks after his exhibition at the Belgian Grand Prix, where in just 18 laps he climbed from fourteenth place on the grid to first after equipping a new power unit, the champion is penalized again, this time for mounting a new combustion engine.
Will we see another spectacular comeback on Sunday? That is what we all must have thought after seeing the FIA statement announcing that the Dutchman, who leads the 2022 F1 World Championship with an iron fist, will start five places behind with respect to his classification in the Italian layout.
This decision is made in a place where it is possible to overtake and recover, despite having fitted a completely new engine only a few weeks ago… and of course it reflects the superiority with which Red Bull is seen in this final straight it’s from the season.
Verstappen is not the only one sanctioned (and more could come) in Monza. Also his teammate, Sergio Pérez, has fitted a new combustion engine, as well as an exhaust system and gearbox, for which he will lose ten places with respect to his classification on Sunday.
They are joined by Carlos Sainz, Lewis Hamilton, Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas, who will drop to the bottom of the grid by mounting several new power unit components.
With many of the favorites penalized, including a Ferrari, a Mercedes and the two Red Bulls, the battle for pole position is very interesting and we could see surprises. Charles Leclerc and George Russell now become the main protagonists in the fight for first place on Saturday, and Fernando Alonso could surprise with a great result.
The race will also be very exciting, again with Versappen making a comeback (although if he does take pole he will only have to do so from sixth), and the other Red Bull, a Mercedes and a Ferrari making their way from the back of the grid.
