From used cooking oil, this is neutral diesel

Neutral diesel is a synthetic fuel that is obtained from used cooking oil. This diesel type is a hope for combustion engines.

The ban on selling cars with combustion engines in Europe beyond 2035 seems like a firm measure that will hardly be revoked. However, there is a clause for the year 2026 in which this measure will have to be reviewed and, if it is not feasible to reach the objective in 2035, its prohibition could end up being delayed.

Meanwhile, an alternative to continue using internal combustion engines beyond this deadline seems to be through synthetic fuels, an option that is not new, since many are companies and automobile manufacturers, such as Porsche. and Audi, who are betting on this technology.

Today we want to talk to you about neutral synthetic fuels, specifically neutral diesel, a fuel that is obtained mainly from used cooking oils, fryers and other industrial processes in the food sector that includes animal fats.

To obtain the neutral fuel label, this synthetic diesel must have been produced by capturing carbon dioxide (CO2), or managing to save carbon emissions equivalent to those emitted when this biofuel is used in an internal combustion engine.

There are already companies in Europe that market this type of neutral synthetic diesel. This type of fuel can offset up to 90% of the CO2 emissions generated in its combustion by processing waste when producing the fuel.

However, it is also more expensive than conventional diesel, reaching the barrier of 2.5 euros per liter of refueled neutral diesel. Therefore, filling the 50-liter tank of your diesel car with this biofuel would cost 125 euros (if we take into account that it is sold at 2.5 euros/litre).
