Plug-in hybrid vehicles have been in significant demand in 2022, something that is not surprising, because they have the DGT 0 sticker and with their electric autonomy they allow you to get around on a daily basis without spending fuel. The Peugeot 3008 Plug-in Hybrid has been the best seller of all

In 2022 sales have fallen by 5.4%, with a total of 813,396 registered cars, according to Anfac and Faconauto, which represents the third consecutive year in which some 400,000 fewer units have been registered than before the pandemic.

Something that according to Félix García, Anfac’s director of communication and marketing, is due to “the semiconductor crisis, deeply aggravated by exogenous factors such as the war in Ukraine or the confinements due to China’s Covid Zero policy”.

“In addition to the economic crisis with rising energy prices, inflation and interest rates, the perfect storm has come to an end with these bottlenecks in maritime and road transport,” adds García himself.

But there is good news: sales of electrified vehicles are rising, especially plug-in hybrids, whose sales have exceeded those registered in 2021 by 11.3%. It is true that their market share is still small (just over 5% of the total, with 48,193 units sold), but step by step the path is being taken.

Hybrid car sales shoot up almost 10% in 2022

Within the PHEV models (Pulg-in Hybrid, plug-in hybrids in English) the sales leader in 2022 has been a compact SUV, specifically it is the Peugeot 3008 Plug-in Hybrid.

This is in line with the global market, since it has precisely been an SUV in the C segment, the Hyundai Tucson, which has crowned the list for the first time in history, ahead of cheaper models. And that means that the majority of Spaniards are betting on increasingly expensive cars, since the Tucson starts at 29,000 euros.

The Peugeot 3008 plug-in hybrid version has sold 2,738 units, which represents a 5.69% penetration in said market. And, with 12,455 registrations, the 3008 ends the year in third overall position among SUVs in the C segment.

Of course, it has been a good year for Peugeot, because it ended the year in second position in the Spanish market if sales of passenger cars and commercial vehicles are added, since it has registered a total of 69,488 registrations, representing a 7 44% penetration. In addition, the León brand closed the year as the leader in the sales channel to companies.

That being said, surely you are interested in knowing which is the Top 10 plug-in hybrid vehicles in Spain in 2022:
