From 3:00 p.m. today until midnight on Sunday, January 8, the third phase of the special Christmas Traffic operation will be underway.

We are entering the final stretch of the Christmas period and the DGT activates the device for the third phase of the special Christmas Traffic operation.

Today, at 3:00 p.m., the third and last phase of the special device that the General Directorate of Traffic has prepared for these holidays officially begins and will last until midnight on Sunday, January 8.

For this third phase, Tráfico anticipates that 4.1 million movements will take place, so it already has at its disposal all its human and technical resources so that all these movements are carried out safely.

DGT recommendations for the third phase of the special Christmas operation

DGT activates the device for the third phase of the special Christmas Traffic operation

Since the special Christmas traffic operation began on Friday, December 23, 39 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents. For this reason, to avoid further misfortunes, the DGT gives a series of recommendations that, not because they are widely known, should not be forgotten.

It is essential to rigorously apply these recommendations when driving, especially at a time when adverse weather conditions can occur on the roads and celebrations with family and friends increase:

  • Plan the trip in advance and find out about any incident on the road through the traffic information bulletins on the different radio and television stations, on the website www.dgt.es and mapamovilidad.dgt.es, on Twitter, @DGTes and @InformationDGT and on the phone 011.

  • Pay attention to circulation in winter, informing yourself of the weather conditions and take the essential elements to circulate if these were adverse.

  • Maximum caution on short and night journeys, even if they are known.
  • Refrain from ingesting alcoholic beverages or other drugs if you have to drive.
  • Fasten your seat belt or correctly anchor minors in child restraint systems. Every year more than a hundred people die who were not wearing this safety device at the time of the accident.
  • Always comply with traffic regulations so that no one has to recreate the Christmas album you couldn’t live.
