Movistar is preparing to adjust its rates and, at least in the fiber-only rate sector, the consumer will not end up noticing pocket damage, quite the contrary. Movistar will adjust prices in a less pronounced way for the client, betting on better final prices in exchange for the elimination of temporary promotions.
For example, now for the minimum price that was paid for 100 Mbps (29.90 euros per month) we will have a symmetric fiber rate of 300 Mbps.
Less promotions, better fixed prices
With the readjustment of its rates that will fully enter into force on January 13, 2023, we will see that the promotions in which the price of the fiber rate was discounted for a certain number of months disappear. In exchange, there will be better fixed prices and no permanence so that you decide when you can leave.
Taking a look at the Movistar website, it seems that the Movistar Conecta 100 tariff, which offered a speed of 100 Mbps at a monthly price of 29.90 euros for those who preferred to pay less if they did not need higher speed, has disappeared.
Therefore, we return to the previous state, in which the operator offers speeds of 300 Mbps, 600 Mbps and 1 Gbps. The first of them includes the previous price that the 100 Mbps had, which explains why it has disappeared from the offer.
Thus, for a price of 29.90 euros per month (definitive price) we will have the possibility of contracting a fiber-only rate with a speed of 300 symmetrical Mbps and includes a fixed line with which we can call unlimited national landlines and will be included 50 monthly minutes to mobiles. This rate, like the other two speeds, includes the line fee, Movistar Smart WiFi router and VAT included in the price.
For a little more money we can double the speed, since the rate of 600 symmetrical Mbps with the same download speed as the upload speed only costs 33.90 euros per month for the final price. It maintains the same conditions for the landline, with unlimited calls to landlines and 50 minutes to mobiles. If you want the maximum speed, the symmetrical 1 Gbps rate goes up to 43.90 euros per month.
The regulated area becomes more expensive
The prices indicated above are only valid for those territories included in the so-called competitive zone or free zone. That is to say, that the rates can be contracted at this price in the 696 municipalities that the CNMC has determined that they have competition, and that bring together 70% of the Spanish population.
However, for regulated or non-competitive zones, where the remaining 30% of Spaniards reside, this offer cannot be valid with the same conditions as the free or competitive zone. In that area controlled by the CNMC, Movistar’s fiber rates are 10 euros more expensive, offering the same characteristics.
In regulated areas, the price of Movistar’s fiber is linked to the price that the operator charges other operators for renting its network. If Telefónica decides to lower the price of its fiber, then it has to lower it to the rest of the operators.
