If he had a team in Formula 1, Max Verstappen would have his good friend Fernando Alonso.
Max Verstappen has imagined for a few moments that he is the owner of a Formula 1 team and for this reason he has had to choose the two drivers he would have in his dream team. The two-time world champion has no doubts: he would sign Fernando Alonso to opt for the best results in the premier class.
Although he hesitates at first when asked about his ideal team, Verstappen doesn’t take long to answer afterwards, which shows that he is clear about his answer. “Couldn’t I be the pilot and the team leader?” He answers himself: it wouldn’t make much sense, but he would opt for two good friends, a good combination of experience and youth.
“It’s hard to choose,” confesses Verstappen in an interview to Mobile 1 The Grid. “I think there are many good drivers. I would like to have an experienced driver, so I would stay with Fernando (Alonso),” explains the Dutchman. “I would also sign a young driver, so I would put Lando (Norris) in the car. Yeah, Fernando and Lando.”
Max has a very good relationship with both Alonso and Norris. With the latter, Verstappen has even shared a team in events such as the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the two are very fond of eSports, so they often meet on the track through the screen. On the other hand, Alonso has recognized Max’s talent on countless occasions, and vice versa.
There is another important position that the owner of a racing team has to choose carefully, that of Team Principal or team leader, and here Verstappen has no doubt. In fact, Max would trust his current boss: Christian Horner. To tell the truth, the work of the Briton has been key to the success of Red Bull F1 and in the achievement of its 6 drivers’ and 5 constructors’ titles.
“Of the people who I think can be Team Principal today, I would always choose Christian (Horner),” says Max, who, as we can see, has complete confidence in the work carried out by his current boss.
Not too long ago, Alonso said that Verstappen was the best driver today and “proposed” Max to one day run the 24 Hours of Le Mans together. The Dutchman accepted and said that “it would be nice”, although finding a car and the ideal moment will be really difficult…
