According to recent reports, the Toyota Supra GRMN, which would be the most performance version of the Japanese sports car, could come with the M4 CSL engine and 550 hp.
Ever since Toyota introduced the fifth-generation Supra to the market in 2019, there has been a lot of speculation that the Japanese automaker was launching a truly extreme version of its iconic sports car. According to recent reports, this version, which would be called the Toyota Supra GRMN, could come with the M4 CSL engine and 550 horsepower.
The initials of “Gazoo Racing Meister of Nürburgring” would be the last name that this extreme version of the Toyota Supra would receive, according to the Japanese website Best Car. At the same time, with the supposed Supra GRMN, the company would say goodbye to the fifth generation of its sports car. and it would prepare to introduce its successor, a sixth generation that, surprisingly, would be 100% electric.
The Toyota Supra GRMN could arrive with the engine of the M4 CSL and 550 CV
But before talking about generational replacements, the market would receive the long-awaited Toyota Supra GRMN. The report suggests it would deliver 550bhp of power, and since the GR Supra was developed in close collaboration with BMW, which also released the Z4, you’d expect its engine to be of German origin.
Specifically, it would be the S58 engine from BMW M, that is, a block of six cylinders in line and 3.0 liters biturbo that is available in the M2, M3 and M4. However, it would be the 550 hp version, so we would be talking about the heart of the M3 CS and the M4 CSL. In this case, we would talk about 650 Nm of torque to complement this power figure.
Of course, the GRMN version wouldn’t just be a more powerful engine. This variant of the Supra would be accompanied by improvements at the chassis level, new brakes and a specific suspension. One would also expect an evolution in aerodynamic terms and a sportier interior. And, if you ask, a diet to reduce your weight a few kilos.
As for the successor to the current Supra, the sixth generation could arrive as a pure electric car, according to the report from the aforementioned Japanese portal. It is said that it would be rear-wheel drive and that it would be based on an evolution of the e-TNGA platform, so it could be based on the Toyota Sports EV Concept that the brand presented at the end of 2021.
At the moment, all this information has not been confirmed by Toyota, which is the sole supporter. However, saying goodbye to the GR Supra with a vitaminized version of it would be the culmination of a return that we had been waiting for years. As for an electric Supra, it seems too extreme a change, since the most logical thing would be a previous hybrid model.
