The DGT launches a message on Twitter to all drivers to remind them how to act when approaching a section of works.
According to the National Registry of Victims of Traffic Accidents, in 2021 there were 158 traffic accidents related to road maintenance and conservation works that involved 17 operators, of whom two lost their lives. For this reason, the DGT tells you what you should do when approaching a section of works.
Every year more than 10,000 works are carried out that cause more than 100,000 incidents in traffic, such as traffic cuts, narrowing of lanes or diversions. And many people work on those conservation works whose safety depends on the drivers.
For this reason, the DGT launches a message on Twitter to all drivers to remind them how to act when approaching a section of works.

Of those 17 victims in accidents related to road works, two lost their lives when they were struck by a vehicle that was either traveling through a section of works at excessive speed or was distracted.
So, what should be done when we approach a section under construction? In these cases, extreme caution should be exercised, as recalled by the General Directorate of Traffic.
First of all, speed must be reduced, since there may be operators working around it and the route becomes more complicated. Likewise, you should not stop abruptly, but slow down gradually and safely to avoid dangerous maneuvers.
Do not forget to take this in the car if you do not want to be fined by the DGT
Secondly, respect the signage, especially the new special signs that have been placed due to the works, such as the prohibition of overtaking, reducing the speed limit or turning on dipped headlights.
Last but not least, keep your lateral distance and pay attention to possible lane endings. Sometimes, the sections under construction make it necessary to open a lane in each direction to redirect traffic to one direction of travel.
In the same way, it is necessary to circulate with caution and calmness to avoid knocking down separation cones or invading the opposite direction.
