2023 Honda Civic Type R Achieves New Nurburgring Record

The Japanese sports car sets the lap record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Nürburgring.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R achieves a new record at the Nurburgring. This is the version, as you know, the most powerful of the Honda Civic in its latest generation. A car that continues to reap success, being the last on the German track. The Japanese sports car sets the lap record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Nürburgring. The completed lap recorded a time of 7 minutes and 44:881 seconds on the German circuit, achieved on March 24, 2023 when members of the Civic Type R development team traveled to the track. The “green hell” welcomed the Civic in its top-of-the-range version, proclaiming itself on this stage as the king of front-wheel drive cars.

“The Civic Type R was developed under the ‘Ultimate Sports Car 2.0′ concept, with the goal of becoming the ultimate front-wheel drive sports car that inspires drivers’ confidence and excitement, and in a way that touches their hearts,” explains Hideki. Kakinuma, Civic Type R Large Project Leader.

“Since the launch of the Civic Type R in 2022, we have received very positive feedback around the world, even exceeding our expectations by far. However, we had a pending mission that we had to tackle: for it to become the fastest front-wheel drive car around the Nürburgring circuit”, he adds.

The unit that has completed the lap has the same engine that the model comes with as standard. It is the powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 329 hp and 420 Nm of torque. It has an updated six-speed manual transmission, being capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 275 km/h.

“Six years after the previous generation, we have achieved a new dimension in the evolution of the Type R and the passion we put into it. To existing and future owners of our latest Civic Type R, we truly hope you love and enjoy the Civic Type R,” concludes Hideki Kakinuma.

Honda’s most powerful Civic has a body that is 4.59 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and 1.40 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.73 meters. In this way, its body is slightly larger than the previous one, which had a length of 4.52 meters and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters. It is available in Spain from 54,850 euros.
