On May 28, the regional and municipal elections will take place in the autonomous communities of Aragon, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, and in the Autonomous Cities of Ceuta and Melilla. At the end of the year there will also be general elections, so the chances that we will have to be part of a polling station multiply this 2023. Luckily, there is a new app that informs you if it has touched you and allows you to make excuses for not go.
Organic Law 5/1985, of June 19, on the General Electoral Regime, establishes the obligation of certain citizens to be summoned to form part of one of the polling stations that make up each electoral college. As soon as a person is informed that they must be part of the electoral process, they “have a period of seven days to argue before the Zone Electoral Board a justified and documented cause that prevents them from accepting the position.” Now luckily this process to excuse yourself will be easier.
