Our router, like the rest of the devices we interact with on a daily basis, receives firmware updates to improve its stability and, in some cases, add certain improvements. We tell you how you can update your Movistar router.

Our router, like our mobile phone or our computer, requires firmware to work and offer all its functions. The manufacturers and operators that work with them release periodic updates that not only add, in some cases, certain improvements. But they guarantee us that we have the latest security updates. A fundamental aspect if we take into account that all the information that we consume and receive through the network passes through this device.

Detecting new updates on our smartphone or our smart watch is easy, since we receive a notification when they can be downloaded. But, what about our Movistar router? We tell you the three ways to do it.

Automatic download

We start with the simplest option. If our router meets the characteristics to be compatible with the new updates, Movistar can carry out the update remotely without us having to do anything. In the vast majority of cases, updates They are usually done automatically. Especially when they have critical security fixes. However, they are progressive and do not always reach all users at the same time, so it is possible that we suffer some type of delay in this regard.

However, it is possible that the situation does not occur or that we want to update manually to be able to enjoy the new functionalities or features that the update presents as soon as possible. This is when we will have to carry out the process manually. Or through the Alejandra Portal, the most common option. Or through the router’s own configuration.

Alejandra Portal

From the Portal Alejandra from Movistar We will be able to know all the information related to our router. To do this, we must access this link and a panel will open with all the information about our device, we must access to the “Other operations” menu. From there, we will find out if there is a new version of firmware that we have not downloaded and, if so, we will only have to click on the option that says “Update firmware”.

The download will automatically begin and, remotely, it will be installed on our router so that we can use it immediately.

Update manually

This second method is not as common, nor simple, as the previous one. But it is just as useful if for any reason we cannot access the Alejandra Portal and we have the firmware file that corresponds to the exact configuration and characteristics of our router. In this case, we must carry out a few more steps than if we did it by the previously mentioned route.

We have to write: 192.168.1.1 in our browser and access our router with the password and username that we can find on the device itself. At the top of the settings menu, we have to look for the Advanced Settings option. Within it we can Access “Administration” and click on “Update software”. It is possible that some of the menus are in English, but, in any case, at this point all we have to do is attach the file in our possession and accept all the steps. Automatically, we will have our router updated with the latest version.
