A few days ago we told you about the HBO Max premieres announced for the month of May. The reception of the news was not good, since many subscribers complained about the lack of balls. Luckily, now we can tell you that there is no need to worry, since the transformation of the service into Max will bring a new wave of releases this month.
As was obvious, the information we published days ago received more than one criticism. One of our readers posted a comment that was seen similarly on social media by other people: he was dissatisfied. Because the list of HBO Max premieres for May, in reality, did not include as many new features as one could imagine.
Movies that come and go
One of the problems with this news is that HBO Max decided to decorate this beginning of the month of May with the recovery of film classics that had previously been available on the platform. As is often the case, there are films that are around for a while, disappear, and then come back. That’s what happened with some of those that were on that list, like several of the classic installments of the Superman saga.
However, it is curious that this happens, since the parent company of the streaming service, Warner, is still the owner of the licenses for many of these films. Removing them from the platform and then recovering them would be like Disney+ removing Marvel movies whenever it felt like it and then announcing their return. In reality, this is a type of content that subscribers expect to always be present. Hence, in part, the major anger that there was with HBO Max.
There is good news
It is important that you know something, and that is that HBO Max in Spain has confirmed that the premieres that will arrive on the service when it becomes Max on May 21 will be announced on a date not yet revealed. Therefore, the news that was announced a few days ago for May will not be the only premieres. The “big” part (at least we hope it is) will come in a few weeks.
At the end of the day, it was to be imagined, since we already expected that the moment of the transformation of HBO Max into Max would be presented as something very important. And that means that we have to find, practically obligatory, gold premieres. The question is, of course, what will be those premieres that we are going to find in Max.
When the transformation took place in the United States, the service multiplied its hours of content. It did so with very varied proposals and, above all, many documentaries, reality shows and new series. At the time we already tested Max with our American account and we tell you some of our impressions, so we get the idea of where the shots will go in his debut in Spain. If there was any Max content that you were waiting for and that had not yet arrived in our country, possibly this will be the moment in which it is released.
That leaves us with a pool that possibly includes the premiere of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, How to Create a Sex Scandal or Clone School. This is a difficult forecast, since many of the releases that Max had at the time in the United States had not been left in the pipeline and have been available on HBO Max for a long time, such as What am I eating? with Zooey Deschanel. That makes it a little more complicated than necessary to make a forecast.
Where we do assume that there will be many new features will be in documentaries and programs from Discovery, a platform that has had a lot to do with the increase in the volume of Max content. However, it is true that we expect some kind of surprise title or some great movie that will encourage subscribers or those who register now, have something to celebrate. The transformation into Max in America included Shazam! The Fury of the Gods, a film that is now available on HBO Max. In its replacement, and knowing that DC Comics is restructuring its superhero universe, it would be a great detail if there is some kind of surprise that makes the platform live a few days of true luxury.
