Google held its I/O 2024 event yesterday with artificial intelligence as one of the main protagonists. Since this type of technology began to be a trend, the Mountain View company boasts of all its advances in all its conferences. The technology company is proud of its development in AI and does not mind that it is almost a monotheme. So much so that this year they have counted the times they have mentioned it.
During this year’s Google I/O event, which we reported on from ADSLZone, AI was mentioned quite a few times. Among the news that Sundar Pichai, executive director of the brand, spoke about, he highlighted Gemini 1.5 Pro, Project Astra, VEO… In all this, AI had a fundamental role, which is why the concept “artificial intelligence” did not stop being heard during the conference.
Almost at the end of the presentation of the new developments, the CEO of Google asked his AI to count the times they had talked about said technology. With this request, Pichai wanted to demonstrate how artificial intelligence can help us save time and effort if we use it in our daily lives.
Specifically, the AI counted up to 121 AI mentions. However, the event did not end right after the recount, so we estimate that until the end they mentioned the technological concept a few more times. In total, they would reach 124-125 mentions.
AI was mentioned less than last year
Artificial intelligence continues to be a key topic in company presentations, but the “boom” seems to have relaxed a bit compared to last year. Although Google does not stop working on this type of technology, at the 2023 I/O event they talked much more about AI than yesterday.
The media outlet CNET reviewed all the moments in which one of Google’s speakers said “AI.” At ADSLZone we echoed this account, since it was surprising how many times they had made reference to artificial intelligence. During the nearly 2 hours that the event lasted, 143 times the AI was named were counted. That is, around 20 more moments were mentioned than this year.
The Verge even made a 14-second video for social networks in which it recorded all the moments in which the AI was in Sundar Pichai’s mouth:
@verge Pretty sure Google is focusing on AI at this year’s I/O. #Google #googleio #ai #tech #technews #techtok
Furthermore, to this we must add the performance of a DJ who kept mentioning “AI” (the acronym for artificial intelligence in English) constantly. If this musical theme is included in the count, we could talk about 1,153 AI mentions per minute.
Last year, not only were the times that AI was directly talked about counted. They also listed times when Bard language (42 times) or PaLM language (35) was spoken. Even OpenAI, Google’s number 1 rival in the sector, was mentioned once.
Possibly the interest in counting the times “AI” or related terms were mentioned at I/O 2023 is what encouraged Puchai to make AI count. In this way, the CEO has made the work of journalists easier.
