Bad news for Netflix users who have a Smart TV of a certain brand, since it has just been announced that the application will stop working soon. Users who are affected will have to resort to an alternative access route or choose to purchase a different television. What models are going to be affected?

Smart televisions have been on the market for many years and, although it may seem to us that by having a Smart TV we are already protected against obsolescence, the truth is that we are just as exposed. Therefore, although this news is not welcome, the truth is that it is not as surprising as we might believe. Especially since, last year, a similar incident occurred with this manufacturer.

Those affected are Sony’s Bravia

Sooner than we could have imagined, on July 24, the Netflix app installed on Sony Smart TVs from 2014 will stop working. It is Sony itself that has revealed the news with a brief message in which it informs of the date and how there are a series of specific models of the Bravia family that will no longer be able to continue benefiting from the availability of the application. They also ensure that, of course, until July 23 you have time to continue using the app as you have been doing until now.

Furthermore, they specify that this end of service not only affects users in North America, but also those in Europe and Asia. Therefore, if you are one of the people who has a Sony Bravia Smart TV from 2014, you will soon lose the Netflix app. Instead, you will have to resort to alternative software, such as Kodi, browser access, or simply enjoy another streaming platform. Of course, a Chromecast device or a Fire TV would also help you overcome this problem, since you would download the app through that terminal and not from the television.

On which models will it stop working?

The list of affected televisions is enormous and is divided depending on the region, so we are going to tell you which Smart TVs in Europe will stop working. If you need to know the affected models in the other regions, you can find them on the Netflix website here. At the moment, these are the European televisions on which Netflix will disappear from the Bravia:

In 2023 something similar happened. That year, what Sony announced is that Netflix would stop working on televisions that had been marketed between 2011 and 2013. If we take into account that in 2024 obsolescence already reaches 2014, we imagine that, from now on, we will go to support reduction year by year. Therefore, although those who have a 2015 model can rest easy for the moment, it is obvious that they will end up finding themselves in a similar situation.

With the time that has passed since 2014, it may not be a bad idea to take advantage of the situation to get a new model. Consider that this would give you the opportunity to welcome the latest technological advances and image and sound improvements. But, in any case, it is not nice to see how support is lost for applications that, currently, we consider essential in the daily lives of most users.
