Any operating system worth its salt, whether for mobile devices or desktops, must have a powerful application and game store. That is something that, for example, happens with Windows and its popular Microsoft Store.

Although the official Microsoft system store does not have the expected acceptance at first, the truth is that it offers us some interesting advantages. One of them is the security it offers when downloading and installing all types of software, including video games. In addition, little by little some of the traditional applications are coming to this system store.

In these lines we want to focus on one of the most powerful sectors of the same as the aforementioned games that we can find here. In fact, the software giant has just decided to eliminate one of the categories that has had the most impact in recent times.

To give you a better idea of what we are telling you, last September 2023, Microsoft announced the Instant Games function. This allows users to play games without having to download them from the aforementioned store, the Microsoft Store. The announcement was initially made when the company launched the Moment 4 update in September 2023, but the feature did not begin to roll out until February 2024.

As many of you already know firsthand, Instant Games was available in the new category called Arcade. This was located just below the Games tab in the Windows Store. But apparently the software giant has changed its mind regarding this gaming category that appeared recently.

Arcade category disappears from the Windows Store

And from now on, when you open the Arcade category we are referring to, a new notification appears. This tells us that Microsoft will eliminate Instant Games starting today. This means that we will not have the possibility of playing games without downloading them from the Windows Store, as to date.

Windows games store

In the note, the company points out that starting November 14, 2024, the Arcade category will be removed from the Microsoft Store. We will be able to continue downloading the games, but the Instant Gaming mode will no longer be available. Saying that these instant games offered users a convenient way to pass the time without sacrificing hard drive storage space. We just had to open this section, select a title and click on the Play button.

A new window appeared on the screen, and we could enjoy that game instantly. But unfortunately it seems that this is a category that has not had much success with the general public. Most users have never taken advantage of this advantage of being able to play without installing the titles, as Microsoft originally expected. Hence, at this time the company has decided to eliminate this possibility from the official Windows store at this time.
