mecum mecum
The Lamborghini 2R is the latest tractor from the Italian brand as an exclusive tractor manufacturer. It will go up for auction next May.
Now that Lamborghini is immersed in an ambitious electrification project and has presented the Lamborghini Revuelto, if we look back many of us will remember its most emblematic models, such as the Miura or the Countach. But next month a very special example is up for auction, a 1962 Lamborghini 2R, the last tractor produced before the car division was born.
Today, the Italian brand is known worldwide for its spectacular sports cars. But, as is well known, Lamborghini was born as a manufacturer of tractors, an activity that continues today.
Ferruccio Lamborghini started the tractor business at the end of World War II, making models from discarded parts of military vehicles. In 1951 the first tractor built from scratch was born, the L33, equipped with a Morris engine.
A 1962 Lamborghini 2R up for auction
In the early 1960s, Ferruccio entered the sports car sector, after the famous dispute he had with Enzo Ferrari, due to problems with the transmission of his Ferrari 250 GTO.
Lamborghini Automobili was born in 1963, now 60 years ago. But, just before this happened, in 1962, it made the 2R, Lamborghini’s last tractor as a tractor manufacturer exclusively.
Next May a unit of the 1962 Lamborghini 2R is auctioned in Indianapolis, through Mecum. It has a 2.2-liter three-cylinder engine that develops 40 hp, linked to a four-speed manual transmission.
The tractor arrived in the United States from Italy in 2022, though it underwent an extensive restoration in which it was completely disassembled, sanded down to the frame, and the body was repainted in the same blue and orange color scheme as originally featured. .
In addition, new fuel pumps, a new hydraulic hitch assembly and a service to its power take-offs were installed. You can already see the result, an exclusive 1962 tractor that seems to have just left the factory.
