David López Tomico has died after suffering an accident in the I Rallysprint San Bartolomé de Pinares.
Sadly, another weekend we have to report a fatal accident at a rally. The pilot David López Tomico has lost his life after suffering an accident when he was participating in the I Rallysprint San Bartolomé de Pinares, in Ávila. His vehicle left the road and fell down a 50-meter ravine.
The tragic event took place in the second timed section of this test, in a downhill area between El Puerto del Boquerón and San Bartolomé de Pinares. The vehicle, a Fiat Abarth Punto Evo driven by López Tomico with Natalia Ríos on his right, from the CD Médula Sport team, left the road and fell down a 50-meter hillside.
After notifying the authorities of the accident, a medicalized helicopter and an ambulance with basic life support were mobilized, which unfortunately could not do anything to save the life of the participant. The co-pilot was taken to a hospital.
The test, which had almost 40 registered, was suspended after this tragedy that has left all the participants in the Rallysprint frozen and, naturally, the motor world.
Those who knew David López Tomico well were the members of Vallejo Racing, since López was part of this mythical rally structure that a few months ago participated in its first Dakar Rally, with López Tómico among them.
“AGAIN, THIS SPORT HIT US WHERE IT HURTS THE MOST”, can be read in the publication made on Instagram by Vallejo Racing. “Vallejo Racing is in mourning because we have lost one of our own: David López Tomico, a passionate lover of motorsports, a leader in his work and an example of perseverance and love for his people.”
“He joined the team in 2022 and his encouragement and strength were essential for the Dakar 2023 project to come to fruition. Today we not only lose a mechanic or a member of the team, but a real friend is leaving us. DAVID, YOUR STRENGTH HE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US”, they published.
He had also shared many adventures with David, the former soccer player and also an expilot Santi Cañizares, who mourned his death on Twitter. “For several years he was my mechanic and co-driver… and always a good friend… RIP David López Tomico passed away today at the Rallysprint San Bartolomé… Hugs to his wonderful family,” he said.
Rest in peace
