Alfa Romeo is not exactly characterized by launching many cars throughout the year. And for that reason and for having already more than 111 years and many fans, each novelty of its catalog has repercussions. And then it takes time to be replaced, its value follows its own course… For example, do you like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio? These are its strengths and some weaknesses in the face of a possible purchase.

The irruption of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio in 2017 did not happen without pain or glory, because it was -historical singularities apart, which we have also seen in the brand museum in Aresse-, a rarity, an SUV to adapt to the current fever of the SUVs, which many purists and fans of the label did not fit at all.

So, as you will understand, the first thing that characterizes this vehicle is that it enters the eyes thanks to a very beautiful design. The pity is that the world of the car ‘flies’ and the competition doesn’t stop either, so one of the weakest points is that, without starting to be somewhat outdated, it no longer causes that ‘waow’ effect that Alfa pursues. Romeo in his new stage.

With just those words, his head of Design, the Spanish Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, told us in an interview in Italy, as soon as he took office. And in fact, even the Alfa Romeo Tonale (which was almost finished when he arrived) has a slightly fresher and more modern design than the model featured in this post.

However, leaving this nuance aside, the Stelvio continues to want to stand out in the compact SUV market with elements that transmit sensations and passion for driving to everyone who gets on board. And if on the outside its look continues to denote dynamism and a certain aggressiveness with the typical triangular front grille (or scudetto), on board there are also aspects to take into account.

To begin with, the posture behind the wheel is much more accurate than in other equivalent models. And behind the wheel, it has always been decided to keep the two large analog clocks (‘cannons’) to control the speed and revolutions per minute in the old way, as is now the tradition of the brand.

On the other hand, without sacrificing comfort, the seats also contribute to that sporty touch that their current and future customers like so much: they tend to pack better than others and the available materials, in addition to being beautiful, also have neo-retro flashes -in function of the finishes- that make a set that is never overloaded more appealing.

As for the rear space, due to its coupé shapes, it does not stand out so much and its trunk is average (525 liters), so perhaps these are points more in its favor than against, since it should not have been easy to combine all those aspects. for the designers of a model that has already been five years (and three since its slight facelift).

More passionate elements? Its versions, finishes and engines. How could it be otherwise, no one could expect a certain ‘feeling’ with the asphalt without a pleasant touch, a chassis that was up to the ‘alphas’ and, of course, a range of engines with a certain verve. And all, at a price that does not go too high.

At this time, it is interesting to see how the PVP of the Stelvio starts at 53,550 euros, for the Super version. And that its range consists of 2.2 diesel engines of 160, 190 and 210 hp (with rear-wheel drive the one with less horsepower or total the others) and 2.0-liter gasoline blocks with powers of 200 and 280 hp respectively, 4×4 traction and (one and the other) automatic change.

And if the Qadrifoglio versions of any ‘Alfa’ will always be more appealing both when buying and selling such a vehicle in the future, the luck is that you can still buy an Alfa Romeo Stelvio with the mythical green four-leaf clover today. … although its price does not fall below 119,800 euros.

Its arguments are to have the honor of being the most radical Stelvio, with an authentic ‘cuore sportivo’ and the 2.9 V6 BI-TURBO AT8 Q4 engine. Or what is the same, almost 3 liters of gasoline, a power of 510 CV, permanent total traction, 51CM 20″ rims, dynamic suspension, Brembo brakes… Oh, and now that you are ready to invest, one last trick: everything Alfa Romeo ends up trading more if it is red.
