Two direct rivals.
Sports cars are a fancy car, but that does not mean that you have to opt for any one lightly. Today we are comparing two relatively accessible models, Alpine A110 or Porsche Cayman 718, which of the two is the better alternative?
Design
We are talking about two really beautiful sports cars, although with quite different designs from each other.
Alpine must be applauded for how the brand managed to create a new model while staying very faithful to the original, keeping a clearly recognizable silhouette and wearing very characteristic details such as the format of the headlights.
Next to it, the Porsche, although also stylized, is a more muscular car, something that is due to the wide air intake in the bumper, the more pronounced wheel arches and the air intakes that precede the rear axle.
Mechanics
The offer of versions of the Alpine is made up of four versions. The access is the Alpine A110 to dry, which is equipped with a 1.8 turbo engine that develops 252 CV and 320 Nm of maximum torque. Above is the S, which maintains the same engine, but gains 40 hp to reach 292 hp and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds (one tenth faster).
The next level in the ranking is A110 GT, which uses the same block, but boosted up to 300 CV. The last to arrive has been the A110 R, which lowers the weight to 1,082 kilos, maintains 300 CV of power and registers 3.9 seconds in the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.
As regards the German, its access versions (Cayman and Cayman T) mount the same four-cylinder turbo 2.0 engine that develops 300 HP of power and 380 Nm of maximum torque, associated with a six-speed manual gearbox and a system rear wheel drive They accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and reach 275 km/h.
Above is the Cayman S, equipped with a 2.5 turbo four-cylinder block that delivers 350 hp and 420 Nm, also with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. It registers an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 285 km/h.
It is followed by the Cayman GTS 4.0, which mounts an atmospheric 4.0 six-cylinder block, delivers 400 hp and the torque varies depending on the transmission: 420 Nm for the manual and 430 Nm for the PDK. Always rear-wheel drive, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 and 4 seconds, respectively, and reaches a top of 293 and 288 km/h in each case.
Special mention must be made of the Cayman GT4, with 420 CV, a 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 304 km/h; and GT4 RS, a street-legal track machine powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops 500PS, completes the sprint in 3.4 seconds and tops out at 195mph.
Price
At this point they are quite even, but the Alpine A110 wins by a little: it is available from 63,200 euros, while the Porsche Cayman 718 starts at 69,010 euros. Of course, we must consider that for this price difference the Porsche offers more power, although the French has a very even performance.
Which is better?
The truth is that these are two rivals quite similar to each other and, for the price they have, either one offers a good portion of sportiness: similar powers, rear-wheel drive and manual transmission in the access versions.
Of course, for those who want a higher level, the Cayman 718 should be the chosen option, since its opponent falls short in terms of high-performance variants.
