If you are going for a mid-size SUV this year, you should consider these two models. There are several options that you will find in segment D, with vehicles of different brands, characteristics and prices. But if you find yourself in the difficult position of choosing between these two models, here we leave you an interesting analysis. Which to buy in 2022, the Audi Q5 or the Skoda Kodiaq?

To face them we are going to resort to a technical comparison where we will analyze sections such as the dimensions, the trunk, the range of engines, the standard equipment and the prices. At the end, we will expose the strengths of each model in a final section as a conclusion.

Dimensions

The first model in this article is the Audi Q5. In this case, it offers 4,680 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width and 1,635 mm in height, all on a platform with a 2,825 mm wheelbase.

His rival in this technical comparison is the Skoda Kodiaq. In this case, we are talking about the largest SUV of the Czech firm, with 4,695 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,680 mm in height, as well as a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.

Trunk

The trunk is one of the most notable points in this type of vehicle, which has a clear family focus. For this reason, the Audi has space inside for five passengers and the trunk offers a volumetric capacity of 520 liters, expandable to 1,520 liters by folding down the rear seats. The Sportback version offers 510 and 1,480 liters, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Skoda model is offered in both a five-seater and a seven-seater version. The five-seat variant has a 650-litre boot, expandable to 2,065 litres. The seven-seater version has a trunk of 270 liters with seven seats, 560 liters with five and 2,000 liters with only the two front seats available.

engines

Mechanically, the Audi Q5 is available with a choice of four-cylinder engines including a 265-hp 2.0 TFSI and a 204-hp and 163-hp 2.0 TDI, in addition to the 341-hp SQ5. There are also two plug-in hybrids, with 299 hp and 367 hp. The engines are associated with S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmissions and seven relationships, and front-wheel drive or total quattro systems.

In the case of the Skoda Kodiaq, the range includes 1.5 TSI petrol engines with 150 hp and 2.0 TSI with 190 and 245 hp. Among the diesel engines we find the 2.0 TDI with 150 and 200 hp. The engines are available with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission, as well as front-wheel drive or 4×4 systems.

Standard equipment

Among the standard equipment of the Audi Q5 (Advanced finish) we have 18-inch wheels, tire pressure control, driving modes, electric parking brake, LED headlights, climate control, electric trunk, Audi parking system plus, cruise control , Audi pre sense city, ISOFIX, digital radio and emergency call, among others.

For its part, the Skoda Kodiaq (Ambition finish) includes 17-inch wheels, dual zone climate control, multimedia system with 8-inch touch screen, driving modes, parking assistant, adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, access and start keyless, LED headlights, Front Assist and tinted windows, among others.

Prices

Prices for the Audi Q5 start at 54,260 euros for the Advanced version with the 35 TDI 150 hp engine and S tronic automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the price of the Skoda Kodiaq starts at 34,320 euros for the Ambition version with the 150 hp 1.5 TSI gasoline engine and six-speed manual transmission. Thanks to the promotional discount of the brand, this rate is reduced to 28,555 euros.

conclusion

If we focus on dimensions, the Skoda Kodiaq is 15mm longer, 15mm narrower and 45mm taller than the Audi Q5, with 35mm shorter wheelbase. However, the trunk has a greater volumetric capacity in the Skoda, in addition to offering the possibility of choosing between five and seven seats.

On the contrary, the range of engines has greater power and variety of fuels in the Audi model, highlighting the plug-in hybrid versions that the Kodiaq does not offer.

The standard equipment is quite complete in both models, despite the clear difference between the two (the Audi is a premium SUV and the Skoda a general brand SUV). However, this difference is also reflected in the price, with the Skoda Kodiaq being almost 20,000 cheaper in its range access version without taking into account the significant promotional discount of the brand.
