The for decades manufacturer of BMW models, Alpina, has just been acquired by the German brand that will integrate it from 2026 although, for the moment, the movement is waiting for the German authorities to give it the final approval after verifying that does not violate antitrust laws.
Both entities signed a collaboration agreement in 2020 that lasted for five years, until 2025, and it will remain in force until its conclusion, at which time the firm will be integrated into the manufacturer.
They have not wanted to give financial data in this regard, but it has been announced that it will take place through the purchase of shares. For its part, the Bovenspiepen family, which led Alpina for 57 years, is going to create a new company with the same name and will be dedicated to businesses related to classic cars.
But what has led to this decision? In the press release, the entity is clear: electrification and the difficulties that derive from it for small manufacturers, which are increasing the risks and making them unaffordable.
The statement points to “the politically driven transformation towards electric mobility, as well as the tightening of regulatory demands around the world, especially on vehicle emissions, software validation and requirements to protect monitoring systems and assistants. of the driver”.
Andreas Bovensiepen, CEO of Alpina, said: “In the coming years we will be showcasing new, exciting, dynamic and efficient cars. Our order books are as full as ever and several new products and product updates are imminent.”
And he continues: “The strength and appeal of the Alpina brand is very well established. We made a conscious decision not to sell Alpina to any other manufacturer with an interest in the automotive industry because BMW and Alpina have cooperated with confidence for many, many decades.”
