The novelties, from 2025.
BMW has chosen CES Las Vegas 2023 to present what its electric cars of the future will be like: it has concentrated a whole series of innovations in a prototype, some of which will reach its production models within a couple of years, others unconfirmed. The BMW I Vision Dee holds all the keys to the coming years for the brand.
The first is an evolution of one already known and is that it has taken E Ink technology to the next level: instead of oscillating between black and white, as it did in the BMW iX, you can now alternate between 32 colors and, what is better , independently vary each of the 240 body segments, allowing for great levels of customization.
Secondly, something that has been announced for BMW models from 2025: an advanced Head-Up-Display that extends to occupy the entire width of the windshield.
At least in the case of the prototype (it has not been confirmed for production), this is combined with the BMW Mixed Reality Slider, with which the driver can select what content he wants to see on the HUD, the size of the windows, etc. Regarding the available data, they range from information related to driving to augmented reality.
One of the most striking facets, which we doubt is applied (at least for the moment) to production models, is the ‘phygital’ icon, which combines headlights and a grill (here fully closed) so that the car can reproduce facial expressions, which it would allow you to communicate with the driver and welcome him.
It does not seem that the BMW I Vision Dee is going to directly derive a production model, but the prototype does advance the design language that future releases will have, both externally and internally, the search for a more focused approach being common to both areas. minimalist and focused on digital.
By concept and dimensions, we could see in it a preview of what will be the next electric BMW 3 Series, which following the trend of the brand would almost certainly respond to the name of BMW i3.
