11.28 million units were registered.

2022 has not been a good year for car sales in general, neither in most local markets nor in wider regions. We already know the data for 2022 and they were worse than those of the previous year: 11.28 million registrations were registered, which represented a decrease of 4.1%.

And this despite the fact that in the month of December there was a final push that improved the figures for the same period in 2021: if 860,497 units were sold in that one, last year it reached 999,874.

Going into brands, the best seller in 2022 was Volkswagen with 1.19 million cars, which meant a drop of 6.9% for the manufacturer; followed by Toyota, which remained at 766,769 units, being the only one that grew from the top 3, with an increase of 7.6%; and closing the podium BMW with 646,538 units, a decrease of 5.4%.

In the month of December specifically, Volkswagen also led the market with 121,618 units (26.5%), BMW was second with 67,288 units (35.9%) and Renault was third with 67,219 units (0.2%).

Although it has been a bad year for Europe, comparatively it has been even worse in Spain, which closed 2022 with 813,396 registrations, which implies a drop of 5.4% compared to the figures for 2021.

In addition, there is also a difference between European and Spanish tastes (in addition to economic levels) in terms of brands, since in the national market the three best sellers were: Toyota (73,505 units) , Kia (63,345 units) and Hyundai (59,503 units).

Volkswagen, the European queen, settled for a fourth position (58,874 units) and BMW directly was not even among the 10 best sellers.

The data on the best-selling cars remains to be known, which will surely also differ with respect to the Spanish market (Hyundai Tucson, Dacia Sandero and Seat Arona were the three best-selling models).
