Creating meetings with friends on WhatsApp is easier with the new Events feature

For some time now, the most widely used messaging app in the world has not stopped receiving new features, not counting those that are being tested internally in the beta for iOS and Android, since it seems that both are taking a separate path.

One of the most useful features of WhatsApp, just like Telegram, is groups. WhatsApp groups are the perfect tool to stay in touch with a group of friends to chat about planning the weekend, for parents of children at school to stay in touch, or simply to share any kind of content that we consider funny.

However, WhatsApp groups had one shortcoming that did not make it a perfect application for groups, a feature that, after a long wait, is now available and is none other than the possibility of creating events in groups, a function that allows you to organize any type of event in a much simpler way than by doing surveys or checking the chat history.

Organizing meetings on WhatsApp is now much easier

For example, if we are organizing a birthday party and we want to know how many people in the group will be able to attend, there is no need to conduct a survey and consult the data. We just need to create an event in the group, adding all the information and wait for the members to consult it and respond affirmatively or negatively.

WhatsApp began testing this feature a couple of months ago on a small number of users and it seems to have been a huge success, as we can see in the post on the WhatsApp account on X (Twitter), it has begun to roll out this new feature to all users, a feature that comes from the server side, so if it doesn’t appear for you yet, it will be a matter of days before it does.

How to create WhatsApp events in groups

With the application open, and locating ourselves in the group where we want to create the event, we click on the clip located just to the right of the text box and select the Event option.

Next, we need to write the name of the event and set a date and time. Optionally, we can also add a location (perfect for indicating where the event will be held if it is an in-person event).

We can also set up a meeting for a WhatsApp call or video call, a function that allows creating a meeting between all members on a specific day and time.

Finally, click on Send to display the event that we have created in the group. If we have made a mistake or want to modify something, from the event itself we click on the Edit button. Only the person who created the event can edit it.

Members of the group, as in other types of events on this platform, can only answer I will attend or I will not attend.

When you click on the event, all the people who have responded will be displayed along with their response, whether affirmative or negative.
