The Cupra Raval will be the smallest electric car of the Spanish brand and also the cheapest. It will arrive in 2025 and will be manufactured in Martorell. This is all that is known about the new Spanish car.
Almost a year ago, the Spanish brand presented an ambitious plan for the future which it called Cupra Unstoppable Impulse (Unstoppable Impulse), announcing the arrival of three new models until 2025. One of them was the UrbanRebel, a car that we were already able to see in a more evolved phase, already like Cupra Raval, in the Automobile Barcelona 2023.
The Cupra Raval is “an urban, rebellious, and 100% electric car, with its own character and linked to Generation Z,” said Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Seat and Cupra, during the presentation of the prototype at the 2023 Barcelona Motor Show.
The urban concept of the vehicle is reflected in the choice of the name, by Cupra: Raval, one of the neighborhoods of Barcelona, thus demonstrating the company’s link with Barcelona, as already seen with the Cupra Born.
The Raval will be manufactured at the Martorell plant on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB Small platform and will arrive in 2025 to increase the supply of small electric cars.
Cupra Raval, everything you know about the new Spanish car
We have here a compact electric car, 4.03 meters long and with a wheelbase of 2.60 meters, so it is framed within segment B, where you will find rivals such as the Peugeot e-208, the Opel Corsa-e or the MINI Cooper SE. Therefore, it is the equivalent to the Seat Ibiza in electric format.
The Cupra Raval features a less extreme design than the initial concept we saw last year, the UrbanRebel. At the front, it shows off the characteristic aggressive look of the brand, made up of triangular-shaped headlights, sharp lines and angular shapes.
When viewed from the side, its musculature is best appreciated, accentuated by a high beltline, a line of tension rising from the front wheel arch to the C-pillar and another that runs from the B-pillar to the wheel arch. rear.
The rear transmits as much or more sportiness, since, from top to bottom, it has a spoiler divided into two, thin lights with the backlit Cupra logo in the middle and a marked diffuser.
Not many details are yet known about the interior, beyond the fact that it will offer a very minimalist and connected cabin, following the current trend, with a sports steering wheel flattened at its base, a small digital instrument panel and a floating central screen facing the driver. .
Cupra Raval engines
CUPRA has not given technical details about the production version of the electric Raval. However, the propulsion system mounted on the UrbanRebel from which it derives can be taken as a reference.
It is a 166 kW (226 hp) electric motor, powered by a battery whose capacity is still a mystery, but which provides 440 kilometers of WLTP range, according to the brand. With this engine, it announces an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
Analyzing the B segment models that are already on the market, we might think that this Raval engine would correspond to a top-of-the-range or sportier version and that it will also have less powerful variants that prioritize battery performance.
Finally, regarding the price of the car, we know that it will be the cheapest Cupra model and the one in charge of opening the manufacturer’s catalog. We can take as a reference the Volkswagen ID-2all, which will cost less than 25,000 euros.
The Raval would be located slightly above the German electric car, so we can think of a starting price that ranges between 25,000 and 27,000 euros, and more than 30,000 euros for the most high-performance variant.
