The next NATO Summit will be held in Madrid between June 29 and 30, specifically at the IFEMA Fairgrounds. The device that is going to be deployed for this reason is going to be important and even includes an Operational Plan of the DGT in which traffic cuts are foreseen.
The General Directorate of Traffic will participate in the planned security device through the punctual traffic closure of various interurban roads, which will take place as early as the morning of the 28th.
The roads that have already been confirmed to be affected are the A-2, the M-11 and the M-40 in the section between the A-2 and the M-11, but the DGT points out that it is also possible that other cuts occur on more roads, which is already anticipated to have a negative impact on traffic in the capital.
The situations that may arise are worrying since more than half a million vehicles enter Madrid every day, so there will inevitably be retentions.
Given this situation, the DGT recommends using teleworking whenever possible and, when not, trying to opt for public transport, which will operate in a conventional way.
In case of not being able to do one or the other, the entity points out that during those days the only alternative to the A2 to enter Madrid with a high capacity itinerary is to take the Radial R-2 and then take the M-50 in the direction of Madrid. Despite the possibility, the closure of streets in the capital will also complicate urban traffic.
The General Directorate of Traffic has also ruled on traffic to and from the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas airport, for which it is advisable to use the metro and suburban trains.
Finally, the employers of the freight and passenger traffic sector have also been informed, so that the situation can be evaluated, trips can be planned to try not to go through the affected sections and to try to avoid carrying them out during those days.
