The penalties are not very large.
While driving your car there are certain documents that you must carry with you, otherwise you will be fined different amounts. The good news is that, thanks to the miDGT mobile application, you can carry two of them on your mobile without having to worry in the least.
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is very clear with the three that you have to carry with you when you are behind the wheel:
- Driver’s Driving License
- Vehicle registration certificate
- Vehicle Technical Inspection Card (ITV)
It is something that by now every driver should know, but it never hurts to remember it. The driving license is the document that enables you to drive your vehicle, it has different classes and categories. Driving without it on top is considered a minor infraction and the fine starts at 10 euros, but can be up to 100 euros.
The circulation permit “is the document that identifies the ownership of the vehicle, including special vehicles, both agricultural and works and services.” The basic fine is 10 euros for not carrying it, it amounts to 80 euros if you have erroneous data and reaches 500 euros if the circulation permit has been withdrawn.
These two are the ones that can go inside the miDGT app and have the same validity as if you were physically carrying them.
The third does not have this possibility and is “the document that certifies that the vehicle is approved to circulate on the roads of our country.” These cards are issued by ITV stations, so that is where you have to go if you need to request a duplicate.
The sanction for going without the Technical Inspection Card of the Vehicle is the same as that of the circulation permit, with a base sanction of 10 euros that can be converted into 200 euros if driving with the expired ITV.
