Below you will find a list of five freaks of the Honda Civic that few know, five curiosities of the most famous Japanese compact in the world.
The Honda Civic is one of the oldest models on the market. They have been active since 1972 and have marketed ten generations in the last 50 years. This goes a long way, even for us to bring you an article with five Honda Civic freaks that few know.
This list is actually curiosities that not everyone knows about the Honda compact. Among these curiosities you will find everything, from data that refers to its production, to the number of units that have been sold in the last half century or the records that its sportiest version has set.
easter-egg
But before talking about that, let’s start with a real frikada that hides the tenth generation of the Honda Civic and that it is very likely that very few know. It is an Easter Egg. These are little nods to the past, to history or to the competition that manufacturers hide in plain sight in their vehicles.
Well, in the case of the tenth-generation Honda Civic, the compact hides one of these Easter eggs under the rubber mat in the center of the console. Beneath it is an engraving depicting the silhouette of a RA106 F1 single-seater, an RC213V motorcycle and the famous Honda Jet. Thus, Honda reveals its roots in racing and aeronautics.
worldwide sales
The next great curiosity has to do with the worldwide sales that the Honda Civic has managed to register. The first generation of the Japanese compact was launched on the market in 1972, so this year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Civic.
Well, with the eleventh generation of the Honda Civic just around the corner, the Japanese brand has reached the milestone of selling more than 27.5 million units in the last five decades. Nothing bad!
Production and marketing
Another curiosity of the Honda Civic that not everyone knows has to do with its production and marketing. As we have mentioned on more than one occasion throughout this article, the Japanese compact has been on the market for 50 years and its eleventh generation is about to be marketed.
In this time it has managed to exceed 27.5 million copies sold. And, to reach this important milestone it is vital to have several plants making cars and many markets where they can be sold. In the case of the Civic, Honda manufactures the model in 9 different factories and then markets it in 170 countries around the world.
The first hybrid Honda Civic
In 50 years, the Honda Civic has always been available with traditional internal combustion engines, highlighting the famous VTECs that are responsible for its great sales successes. However, at a time when the electric car has gained so much traction, hybridization has finally found its way into the Civic.
In October 2022, the marketing of the first hybrid Civic in Spain will begin. This version will come with a hybrid propulsion system of 184 hp and 315 Nm of torque that will achieve an average consumption of 4.7 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 108 g/km. Therefore, in our market you will obtain the ECO environmental label from the DGT.
Type R records
The fifth and final frikada on the list about the Honda Civic that few know has to do with the many records that the Type R has managed to conquer over the years. Specifically, the tenth generation is the most successful in terms of lap records achieved on the most famous circuits in the world.
Among the most notorious is the one achieved at the Nürburgring in 2017, at Estoril, Magny-Cours, Silverstone, Hungaroring, Bathurst, Spa-Francorchamps and Suzuka, among others.
