In the middle of 2023 it seems that the only thing that is being talked about in the motor world is electric cars, but the reality is that there is still a lot left for them to be the preferred alternative. Hybrids are more suitable cars for a more varied public and it is even possible to do without electrification, as these five gasoline cars show that continue to be a perfect purchase option.

abarth 500

Abarth has already presented the 100% electric version of its 500 and, over time, it will be the only one that ends up remaining. Although this type of mechanics suits a small missile like this one, there are certain sensations that it cannot replicate with respect to its gasoline variant, which is also 10,000 euros cheaper.

The icing on the cake is the fact of being able to choose between two power levels for its 1.4 T-Jet engine, which in the 595 version delivers more than enough 165 CV and in the 695 it reaches 180 CV.

bmw 2 series

Few coupe-cut models remain on the market and the BMW 2 Series is a most balanced car, capable of offering very sporty sensations even from its access variant and without compromising a certain practicality (the trunk has a capacity of 390 liters).

Logically the M2 (with its 460 CV) would be the jewel in the crown, but it is not necessary to aim so high to find a gasoline car that is very worth considering. The rest of the versions are the 220i of 184 CV, 230i of 245 CV and M240i xDrive of 374 CV.

Mazda MX-5

If someone thinks of a “whimsy car” it is quite likely that the Mazda MX-5 is one of the first models that come to mind. It is a two-seater convertible with a technical proposal designed to have fun. The question is: is there something wrong with it?

It is a car that, yes or yes, convinces purists since it applies the philosophy of contained weight, fair power and good dynamism. Whether it’s the 132bhp 1.5 Skyactiv-G or the 184bhp 2.0 Skyactiv-G, its combination with a six-speed manual gearbox and a rear-wheel drive system makes it a very interesting sports car in today’s market.

Toyota GR Yaris

We could have put the Toyota GR86, but we don’t want to make blood, since it has run out and can no longer be bought in Spain. However, Toyota has other very interesting gasoline models in its range and the case of the GR Yaris stands out because it is a unique model of its kind and can even be seen as an investment for the future.

And the thing is that no one can match the combo that it offers: very compact size, 1.6 turbo three-cylinder engine with 261 CV of power, manual gearbox, four-wheel drive that can optionally add two differentials…

Seat Arona

Not everything was going to be fun and fancy cars on this list, the market is also full of models that, while remaining faithful to gasoline engines, are completely valid purchase options. We have chosen the Seat Arona as a representative, but there are many others (Skoda Scala, Citroën C3, Kia Stonic… just to give a few examples).

The Spanish SUV has against it, compared to its rivals, the fact that it does not have any electrification, but its gasoline engines are more than valid. The access 95 CV may fall short, but the 110 CV is already quite versatile and the 150 CV offers slightly sporty driving sensations.
