The Volvo C40 and the XC40 Recharge are two identical cars, because of their platform, because of their mechanical and electrical offer and because they share many elements, but there are five key differences between the Volvo C40 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. We tell you.

Although before starting with the differences it is essential that we talk to you about their similarities. And the most important is that they mount the same type of electric motors. Specifically, they are offered in two versions:

The first one is called Single and mounts a single 231 hp engine on the front axle; the second is called Twin, because it mounts two motors, one on each axle, it has 408 CV and, logically, all-wheel drive.

We must also make it clear that we only value here the Recharge version of the Volvo XC40, since this is also for sale with gasoline combustion engines, such as electrified (plug-in hybrids: B3 and B4), with powers from 130 to 197 CV.

Undoubtedly, the aesthetic section is where the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Volvo C40 Recharge differ most. Since the first is a conventional SUV that measures 4.43 meters long and the C40, although it measures somewhat less (4.42), the remarkable thing is that it is a coupé-style SUV, that is, with a descending roofline at from the B pillar.

Interior space

The interior of the XC40 (above) is the same as the C40 (below), but there are differences in the rear seats, which are conditioned by the drop in the roof, which not only limits the space at the top in the second row, as indicated in the image Gabriel Jiménez, director of Auto Bild, but rather makes it difficult to access this area. Therefore, the XC40 is more recommended for families than the C40 Recharge.

And there are also slight differences in cargo space. Both Volvos have two trunks: one in front and one behind. The front is 31 in both cases, but the rear has a capacity of 419 liters in the XC40 and 414 in the C40. Recharge

Consumption

The truth is that they are not important differences, but they are there and in the case of 100% electric models, they must be highlighted. The XC40 Recharge declares an average expense of 18.6 kWh/100 km, while the C40 Recharge promises an expense of 18.1 kWh/100 km. Perhaps they are conditioned by the aerodynamic coefficient Cx, which is 0.32 in the C40 and 0.33 in the XC40.

Autonomy

As a consequence of consumption, the approved average autonomy also varies from one model to another. In the case of the C40 it is 437 km and the XC40 is satisfied with 423 km, always according to the data obtained with the WLTP protocol.

The price

And the official rate is another of the big differences between these two Swedish electric models. As you can already guess, the coupe is more expensive. The Volvo C40 Recharge is available from 47,143 euros in the 231 hp Single version and from 55,409 euros in the case of the Twin with two engines and 408 hp.

The prices in the case of the XC40 Recharge are 44,618 euros for the Single and 52,885 euros for the Twin. Official prices without discounts or Moves III plan in all cases.
