One of the most dynamic utilities.
For this year 2022, Ford applied an update to its access model to the range and also the most popular, the Fiesta. Slight tweaks, as usual when a model reaches the middle of its business cycle, but enough to keep it up to date. Let’s see where it has changed for the better and where the 2022 Ford Fiesta could improve.
Historically, the Ford Fiesta has been one of the benchmarks in the B-segment of utility vehicles, ever since it appeared on the market back in the 1970s. Given its longevity, it is also one of the most emblematic cars currently on the market.
But it has to face tough rivals, such as the Volkswagen Polo, the Peugeot 208 or the Seat Ibiza, to name just three. And the weight of a name like Fiesta is of little use if it does not offer qualities, especially in terms of technology.
Although the changes in the new Ford utility are almost imperceptible, the car has improved in some points. And most importantly, it remains one of the most fun-to-drive cars in its class.
It maintains the three-door bodywork (although not in Spain) and the Fiesta Active version. One of the most important improvements is in the Ford Fiesta ST, which has increased its torque.
New exterior design of the Ford Fiesta 2022
New design, with nuances… the changes are limited, something that also applies to the interior. However, they are important enough to affirm that it has improved in the aesthetic section.
There are changes to the grille that, as was the case with the outgoing model, is different, depending on the version (Ford Fiesta Trend, Ford Fiesta Active, Ford Fiesta ST-Line…). With this update, each of the versions of the Fiesta is more distinguished.
digitized interior
One of the points where the Ford Fiesta 2022 has changed for the better is inside. Now it presents a much more digitized aspect, in keeping with current times and with what the public demands, especially the younger ones.
The basic versions equip an instrument panel with traditional clocks, but a new 12.3-inch digital panel is also available, with several options for personalization and organization of the projected content.
In addition, the screen offers a good level of brightness and resolution and can be operated via the steering wheel controls.
The new Fiesta is also equipped with the new SYNC 3.2 multimedia system, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which displays all the information related to the navigation, audio, etc. on an eight-inch screen.
LED headlights as standard
An important novelty is that all versions of the Fiesta now include LED headlights as standard, which allows it to match its direct rivals.
In this sense, the oval brand has also taken the opportunity to redesign the shape of the headlights, with black edges, as well as the light signature, as in the rear lights that can also be optionally LED.
New Materials
Although the interior design hardly varies from the previous model, the Fiesta 2022 has some new features, beyond the digitization that we mentioned before.
Now it has better materials for the lining of the most visible surfaces, such as the dashboard and the upper area of the doors, and the level of adjustment of the different parts has improved.
For its part, the Ford Fiesta ST includes all-new, high-performance front seats with integrated headrests and improved lateral support.
More torque for the Ford Fiesta ST
The range of engines has not changed, so it continues to be offered with petrol-only options, some of them with micro-hybridization. However, the engine of the Ford Fiesta ST has been suitably retouched.
It consists of a block of three cylinders 1.5 EcoBoost, turbo, which develops 200 CV. It is the same power as the previous Fiesta ST, but the torque delivery has improved, going from 290 to 320 Nm, between 1,600 and 4,000 laps. However, the benefits remain intact.
Where could I improve? A hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine
Although the electrified engines gain weight, with the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid (with 125 and 155 hp), it is still a 48-volt light hybridization system.
According to Ford, it has improved the Fiesta’s efficiency by 5% overall and 10% in the city. But there is no conventional hybrid or plug-in hybrid variant. For that, we will have to wait until 2026, if everything goes as planned.
space behind
Another drawback that can be done to the Ford Fiesta 2022 and that should improve is the space available in the rear seats. In this aspect, it is at a disadvantage against several of its rivals.
In addition, the trunk offers a capacity of 311 liters, below models such as the Hyundai i20 or the Renault Clio, which offer 352 and 340 liters, respectively.
