The Ford Galaxy has been renewed in 2021. Just a few weeks ago we had the opportunity to test the Ford Galaxy 2.5 FHEV. Now is the time to delve a little deeper into this practical minivan and we will tell you 5 virtues and 2 points for improvement of the Ford Galaxy.

Although you already know it, we remind you that it is a minivan model that is 4.85 meters long and that it faces models such as the Seat Alhambra and its German clone cousin, the Volkswagen Sharan, as well as the French Renault Espace.

1. With 7 seats as standard

Obviously, whoever thinks of buying a Galaxy is because he needs 7 seats on a regular basis. And we are not highlighting it as a positive point for the simple fact that it has them, because there are still many models on the market that offer them, from compact commercials adapted to passenger vehicles, such as the Ford Tourneo Connect, or larger ones, such as the Transit Custom.

The good thing is that here we have enough space for seven passengers (the third row is better for children), without losing the comfort, design and prestige of a car. In addition, it has a really comfortable folding mechanism and automatic rearming of the seats from the trunk.

2. Available as a hybrid

Unlike its competition, it opts to offer a single hybrid version (not plug-in). This shows that Ford continues to think about families that need space, but does not forget to make an efficient proposal that responds to current needs.

It mounts a mechanical set consisting of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 152 hp, plus an electric 92 kW (125 hp), which achieve a combined power of 190 hp. It has a 1.1 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery that allows it to move around the city in 100% electric mode when driving at low speed. Without forgetting that it benefits from the DGT ECO Label.

3. Dynamism above the rest

This is a quality that Ford MPVs have always had, both the Galaxy and the Ford S-Max (also with 7 seats, but shorter and narrower inside) and the C-Max, which have a firm suspension setting and offer precise guidance, thanks to fairly direct and informative steering.

Yes, fine-tuned behavior may not be the first thing that comes to mind for a family man who wants a seven-seater car, but I assure you that coming into a corner and the car turning flat and not rocking noticeably is something that both you and your loved ones will know how to appreciate it on trips in which the car is fully loaded.

4. Advanced connectivity

The fact that it is a car conceived in 2015 does not mean that it has rested on its laurels. In fact, in 2021 it received a restyling with which improvements in the technological section have also been introduced, among which the Ford Pass Connect stands out.

This system comes standard and includes a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. It also allows you to consult some vehicle data and carry out actions remotely with the mobile phone.

5. Better price than the competition

Undoubtedly, offering a lower price than your rivals is always an advantage. But if in this case we add that it has just been renewed, that it has more advanced technology than the rest and that it mounts a hybrid engine with which the rest cannot even dream, then we are faced with a price-technology-equipment set- mechanics that is not comparable to the competition.

The official price of the Ford Galaxy is 43,338 euros, but do not be scared, because the oval mark applies a discount of no less than 11,598 euros, so you can buy it from only 35,740 euros.

Improvement point: design

I don’t mean to say it’s ugly or anything like that. Above all, because in matters of style everyone has their tastes. What I mean is that it is a veteran model, it has been on the market for seven years and despite the recent facelift it only presents design changes exclusively at the front, with a slightly different bumper and updated fog lights and grille.

Yes, there are also new body colors and new wheel models, but a somewhat deeper stylistic twist would have helped it last another five years. And in the cabin there is no change, so inside things do not improve.

Improvement point: trunk

How? A seven-seater car with little trunk? Yes and no. I explain. In fact, it offers a maximum capacity of up to 2,339 liters, which is ridiculous, a volume typical of vans and that, at a given moment, can even be used to make a move.

The problem is that, if you want to use it with the seven seats, the capacity is limited to only 200 liters and that is barely enough for three cabin suitcases and very well placed in an upright position.

If that is your case, you have two options: either buy a roof box (Comparison: the 10 best roof boxes for the car), or bet on a passenger van. But, as I told you at the beginning, the prestige is not the same.
