Among all the proposals submitted, four Spanish green hydrogen initiatives have obtained 74 million euros in aid from the European Commission.
Among the 41 European projects that are going to be carried out, four Spanish green hydrogen initiatives have been chosen by the European Commission to receive a total of 74 million euros in aid. This decision is in line with the Renewable Hydrogen Roadmap, which establishes that by 2030, 10% of the European green hydrogen production capacity will be Spanish.
According to reports from Smartgridsinfo, these aids are part of the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) called Hy2Tech. It aims to support research, innovation and manufacturing in its first industrial deployment in the green hydrogen value chain.
In turn, the aid for these four projects is part of the impulse that the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, with European Next Generation funds, dedicates to green hydrogen with a total amount of 1,555 million, of which up to now they have been assigned 400 million in five calls.

The Spanish companies with green hydrogen projects that have been beneficiaries of these grants are H2B2, SENER, Nordex and IVECO, which have facilities in Andalusia, the Basque Country, Navarra, Asturias, Castilla y León, Catalonia and Madrid.
The Tecnopropia project presented by H2B2 and located in Seville has obtained a public aid of 24.9 million euros. These funds will be used to develop and manufacture competitive electrolyzers of the three main technologies (PEM, AEM and SOEC), according to Smartgridsinfo.
Meanwhile, the SENER initiative is located in the Basque Country and will benefit from a grant of 10 million euros. This project pursues the establishment of an electrolyser factory that will supply the Spanish market, first with alkaline technology and in a second phase with its own technology.
In the case of Nordex, the company receives aid of 11.6 million euros. This project will focus on the development and production of hydrogen generation technology using alkaline electrolysers with direct electrical support from a wind turbine and a photovoltaic installation.
And finally, IVECO’s Poseidon initiative has received a grant of 27.05 million euros and will focus on the development and production of heavy commercial vehicles with hydrogen propulsion systems. The investments will be made at the company’s headquarters in Madrid, Valladolid and Barcelona.
