Few laps on the dry track in Free Practice 3 of the Spanish GP.
Max Verstappen has once again been the fastest driver at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Free Practice 3, although his leadership has not been very representative, since a few minutes after the light turned green, it began to rain heavily on the track Spanish. Carlos Sainz finished the session in fourth position, with Alonso 5th.
The third free practice for the Spanish Grand Prix started with a threat of rain that was confirmed only moments later. For this reason, the riders quickly left the pit-lane, with the aim of setting a time on dry tires, before the water began to fall. Verstappen, with a time of 1:13.664, quickly rose to the top of the standings.
His teammate Sergio Pérez followed, just two tenths behind his teammate, with Lewis Hamilton in third position and Carlos Sainz in fourth, half a second behind the best Red Bull. Fernando Alonso completed the top five places, a few thousandths behind Sainz and six tenths behind Verstappen.
The times were not very representative, because in reality the dry session barely lasted ten minutes, after an exit from the track at turn 14 by the American Logan Sargeant, which caused a red flag and the momentary interruption of the session for a few minutes. The rain intensified, which meant that no one went out on the track.
Lando Norris interrupted this ‘tranquility’ with 28 minutes to go, when he came out of the garage with intermediate tires, with the aim of testing the conditions, something important in case it rained again in qualifying. The rest of the grid did the same seconds later.
At the end of the session, the conditions improved significantly, and once again Norris was the first to change tires and hit the track with dry tires. All the drivers finished on softs, putting their cars to the test in some very challenging conditions. The times, despite this, did not vary.
